I hate to say it, but the holidays are already over! I think you realized that yourself….uhm. Happy New Year to all of you my dear readers and friends! I hope you all continue blogging and supporting each other, and that it will be a very good year for you!
In the Netherlands we always have 2 Christmas days. It actually starts on Christmas Eve, December 24th, and the 25th and 26th are both Christmas holidays. What did I do this Christmas and what did I wear?
Holidays are over, but what did I do?
- We did went to the National Park, and got soaked! But it made a beautiful rainbow. Love the shadow of the 2 of us.
- Me preparing for the fondue wearing the bermudas with slingbacks.
- Fondue!
On Christmas Eve, Gerben and I like to stay at home, just the two of us, and of course Jack and Castor, our cats. Then we will have a nice meal and some wine and that is the start of Christmas for us.
This year we went for fondue. A nice long dinner with a glass of rosé, I love it. Meat fondue this time although we also love cheese fondue. Only organic meat of course and raw vegetables, fruit and baguettes with delicious sauces. I like chicken with grapefruit and cocktail sauce the best. Christmas Day starts always with a nice, extended breakfast with Christmas bread and fresh orange juice and eggs, and of course unpacking the presents!
Then we made salads, each family provides a dish, and headed to my in-laws. We had a delicious Christmas dinner there. On Boxing Day, which is our second Christmas day, we had a lovely, breakfast again and Gerben made an apple pie to take to my sister and brother-in-law! Gerben bakes delicious apple pies!
And what did I wear for Christmas?
- Our gifts!
- This is what I wore on the first Christmas day.
- The Christmas table at my in laws! Doesn’t it look super delicious!
At my sister’s we had fondue again, which we didn’t mind at all. Having dinner with friends or family is always great isn’t it? No matter what you eat! It were great days and so relaxed that we didn’t have to prepare dinners! I can’t even remeber what we did when the holiday’s were over, it was grey and wet so we probably worked out and did some things in and around the house. Nothing special but just finish some loose ends and enjoy that we didn’t have to rush.
We spent New Year’s Eve at our home with friends. Eating doughnuts, it translate as that but in Dutch it are oliebollen! And playing boardgames. A lot of snacks, because we love food, and of course champagne and fire works at midnight. We continued plaing boardgames after the fireworks and I won all evening. Couldn’t resist mentioning that, I am very fanatic! On New Year’s Day we visited my parents in law and my father’s wife and had take away and a relaxed evening.
And so the holidays are over, the new year has started, decoration is going away tomorrow and regularity starts on Monday. I have no good intentions, don’t believe in that. If I want to change something I do that immediately. It is possible that it will be a challenging year health wise for me, I will tell more on that later. For now I wish you a good start of 2025!
- This is what I wore on the second Christmas day.
- I made 3 salads, this is the fish salad. Also made a vegetarian and a meat one.
- Our Christmas tree.
Photos are shit, my phone is almost dead, but I get a new one today! And I totally forgot to take more photos of these holidays. Which is a shame as I like to keep the memories. Hey, a new year intention after all, take more and mainly better photos!
And now it is time to join a Fancy Friday Fashion party!

Your salads look delicious, as does the Boxing Day lunch. Happy New Year! I was given a new camera and tripod so I won’t be disappearing altogether.

Oh thank you very much Di!
That rainbow is fabulous! We spent Christmas day at a state park in Hawaii and it was so pretty being out in nature. I am the same way with new years goals and intentions and I gave them up a couple of years ago because I think each new day is a good day to start a change if it’s needed.

Indeed Joanne! Well spending Christmas in Hawaii is pretty special!
I love seeing how other celebrate and the different food they prepare! We ended up smoking a brisket as it was taking a lot of space in the freezer. It was delicious and we had leftovers for several days. Eating way to many chocolates and cookies!

It is! We love it and often do it in summer, outside!
Sounds like you had a most fabulous and relaxing holiday, Nancy!
We had gourmet on Christmas day and the leftovers on the 26th. That’s not an official holiday here in Belgium, by the way, but I’m lucky that my office closes between Christmas and New Year.
The rainbow photo is lovely! xxx

Oh isn’t it? Are we the only ones who have 2 days? Gourmet is fun too!
All of that food looks delicious! I am happy that you enjoyed your holidays. I hope that this year brings you moments of joy and peace. XO

Oh thank you very much Caroline! That is so kind!
Happy New Year, Nancy! It sounds like you had an abundance of delicious foods. I am especially tempted to now go and make fondue. Lol! You don’t look like you ate too much, though. I have kept the glorious foods under control and when I couldn’t resist temptation, I took just a bite. I enjoyed the holidays this year. I didn’t cook as much and was able to be more prepared than usual and enjoy my friends, neighbors and family. I’m glad you had a wonderful holiday – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com

Haha, thanks Laura!
Nancy, I really do wish we were neighbors because I think we would do nothing but laugh (and pee our pants)! I love the way you think and write. Yes, the holidays are over…except the stores here are already filled with Valentine’s Day stuff. Then will come Easter! It is crazy! I think you look lovely in both outfits. I haven’t had fondue in ages, and now I want some bread and cheese! I guess I will have to settle for a pizza but not now. It’s almost midnight!
Thanks so much for the link up! Happy New Year, my friend!
