Social Media is not all misery, I found some fabulous bloggers via Social Media so don’t take this to literally.
I see myself as an average person. If somewhere an average is calculated, I am always among the average. Never very low, never very high. Well you could say that it is pretty boring. On the other hand, it is useful if you have doubts about something. For example, if you think you are the only one in something. But since I know that I am an average person, I also know that I am not the only one when I am struggling with something. Do you still follow me?
Social Media, misery or fun?
For example, social media. If something is annoying, when you are a fashion (or other) blogger, it is social media. I am active on four social media. Don’t like Twitter and I just post my blog posts there. Instagram is fun and I grow very slowly in that, but I don’t have the frustrations that you read a lot. Trying more and more on IG because I just like that, it’s fun to do. Also I join a few groups with very nice other bloggers. I also created the hashtag #nancysstyleandyours. Here you can show your outfits. I want to do something with it every month, but I don’t know exactly what! Keep an eye on it.
Why are we keen on social media, it’s annoying most of the time!
Facebook has been a source of annoyance in recent weeks. I am blocked for no reason and therefore I cannot support my own group. By the way, if you want to know what group that is: Show your outfit! In which you can also show your daily outfits. With a link to your blog if you want. Very nice to do, when it works!
And then Pinterest. I actually hate Pinterest. I shoot from 70k viewers to 120k and back just as quickly. Whatever I do, it just doesn’t seem to get anywhere. So annoying. And you don’t pin my outfits very much either! Hahaha, I’m really bad! Forgive me ….. But what is the use of Pinterest for my blog I then think. And why am I still doing my best to pin and to do something on Pinterest every day.
Fomo on Pinterest?
Because you are afraid that your blog will become less popular then? Because then you miss ,, followers ,,. Do those followers actually do something for my blog? That is the annoying thing about social media. Once you start, you will not get rid of it. I think it’s so brave of those bloggers who just say: it takes me too much time, it gives me too little, I cut it out! Who knows, maybe I will one day! Well at least with Twitter and Pinterest.
I wonder how you use Social Media. Are you very active. Is it driving you mad? Is social media a misery for you? Or does it work perfectly for you?
What am I wearing?
It was a cold day and I had several appointments so I wanted to wear something warm. I recently bought this cable knit sweater. It’s not a color that suits me very well, but I love these kind of sweaters in off white. So there is that flattering thing of Jodie again! A velvet pleated skirt is warm enough. It’s a old one but I still love to wear it. I like it when a color comes back in a outfit. So that’s why I added the obi belt in the same color as my boots!
Would really appreciate it if you would share my photos on Pinterest.
I would love it if you could follow me on Instagram!
My favorite of last week is: Michelle of My Bijou Life
And now it’s time to start the Fancy Friday linkup party!
Every Friday you can show yourself and meet other bloggers. Even if you’re not a blogger you can join! You can also grab a button to support my linkup party if you like. I would appreciate it very much! Copy and paste the code under my button.

By joining the Fancy Friday party, you agree to receive a weekly reminder email for the linkup.
Love the outfit Nancy and have shared it on Pinterest. The obi belt looks so chic! I used to like Twitter but lately it’s become so hate-filled, I avoid it. Instagram is sadly going downhill, I notice most people get far fewer views for posts (because they’re not shown to everyone). I still like Pinterest and spend many a happy hour pinning!
Author
Haha thanks Gail!I never liked Twitter at all. But I do like IG so I keep on doing that and the rest is just a side dish!
Dear Nancy. I love this outfit, especially the extra colour you put into it using that fabulous belt and matching boots. Love it!
As for social media: I use IG and FB in a very relaxed way. My blog is probably growing less fast because of my relaxed attitude towards social media, but it is constantly growing and I receive many messages of readers who have been inspired by my blog. That’s what I aim for! The balance is right for me this way and I think that is what each of us should aim for: living life such that it is right for you and for your loved ones.
Love,
Lieske

Yes I agree! I love my comments the best and the interaction with my readers!
I’m the same with the socials Nancy. I’ve learned to be less aggravated by it and take it as it comes. I feel as bloggers we can put way too much pressure on ourselves in the social department. Now I just let it ride. I hope you’ve had a lovely Christmas and I just love that Obi belt! xx
Author
Thanks Laurie, I agree with you and are much more relaxed with it! After all it’s only Social Media.
I used to struggle with social media until I decided what my focus was. My blog is the most important. Instagram is next in line because I get some collabs with it. I put effort into Insta by commenting on other’s posts and that’s about it. I used to be obsessive and it was ruining my life. When I let go, I enjoyed it much more. I put my posts on Twitter and Pinterest but I do not engage. If someone finds me, then great! Love this chic look! The pops of dark tan are amazing with the blue and white. I need that obi belt!

Haha, this one is from Wish Kathrine! Thanks, I think I also stick with IG.
Love your outfit especially the belt and the boots – nice! And social media? Instagram is so peculiar as I have so many men wanting to follow me! Yes, I made my account private because of them and they still…. So I go on Instagram every now and then, but cannot take it seriously. Twitter though I love, but for me it’s totally about politics and I only follow people I like – journalists and pundits. So it’s a bit of a bubble of people who think the same way as me and nothing to do with my blog although the blog gets shared there.
Actually social media for me a once-a-week blogger is just not important. I think only do it for fun and I see that that’s the way you think – it’s so important to not take it seriously. For me the writing (of the blog) is everything.
Happy New Year Nancy and here’s to the new decade xxxx

I feel happy with Instagram and can’t be bothered with the rest! That feels a hole lot better! Happy New Year Penny!
Love the obi belt!
I use Instagram the most. I have become laxed with my facebook page lately and haven’t taken much time with pinterest either. It all takes so much time and haven’t had the time for it lately! I try to do it to promote my blog but those platforms hasn’t been a priority lately!

Love Pinterest, get the best fashion ideas. They have a huge database, so you are not limited

That is true, but there is always something that doesn’t work and to get an answer to your questions takes ages!
Social media drives me nuts sometimes! I focus the most on Instagram but it’s so time-consuming! Love your velvet skirt! Such a beautiful look!

It is but I do love Instagram. All the other SM drive me nuts too! Thanks Jill.
You look stunning in this combo. That pleated skirt is so pretty. I like how you belted it with that brown belt. The brown boots are very chic too. The white sweater is perfect. An amazing styling!
The only social media I really do is my blog. I have a pinterest profile but I’m not very active, I only use it when I remember it. I don’t use Instagram (I might return to it some day), twitter, facebook or anything else.
Author
Sounds like very perfect to me! Thanks Ivana!
I hear you. I can add some frustrations. When I started blogging in 2013 more than 1200 friends/followers/people got to see my posts. Today with the same amount of posts (3 per week) only 250 see them despite the number of fans has grown. Whether or not you schedule posts or post more, it remains the same number. On another platform, the ratio of posts to ads seems to be one by one. I have to go explicitly to the bloggers I follow. The other thing I find annoying is the follow/unfollow thing. And permanently, you are asked to buy an ad/promotion of your post. This offer is especially ridiculous as the amount of people who will see the post is about the same as organically saw the post in 2013. Why do brands still look for followers rather than the blog’s stats?
Author
Exactly, that is beyond me! Isn’t the interaction far more important then numbers that doesn’t even reflect that account? But hey, who are we right!
As someone who is new to Social Media for business purposes, it’s been a very interesting ride for me. I started my local costume rental business 5 years ago and had been really building business locally—including sewing for all of those 5 years—2 years it was 9 month stretches with no break (and a 25 lb weight gain to match!)…but now i am at a comfortable place in my inventory–i still will sew and add pieces, that will never end–but i have time to start with my own personal interest of Upcycling Thrifted clothes into higher fashioned clothing….this has been an obsession for me since i was 16 yrs old–i am 48 now!…so in addition to the costumes, i decided to expand myself into the web-a-sphere and also grow the upcycling fashion side…really focusing on social media for about 2 months now—wow! what a new world for me! i am sure i will trail behind learning everything you already have!…i have been following you long before i decided to take the leap into my own personal fashion blogging—-you being one of those inspirations! i would be honored if you would ever peruse my personal upcycles ; ) i’m not exactly there yet, but will let you know! PS this outfit you are wearing, would be amazing for me!
Author
Thanks for introducing! I visited your blog! Very beautiful!
PS I just joined your FB group Show Your Outfit! and what happened to you on FB i see happening to many bloggers…just a matter of time until it happens to me!
Author
Oh thanks! Yes I don’t know how long it will take but it’s just stupid! haha
LOL! I have an outfit similar to yours hanging in my closet waiting for my next post! Great minds??? You look gorgeous in it and I have no idea why you think off-white is not your color. I love the idea of the tan boots and using a tan belt to pull the look together. I totally agree with you on social media. I have 700+ followers on Instagram and I’m lucky to get 40 likes. I have 300+ on each of Facebook and Twitter and I’m lucky to get one like :/ I do much better on Pinterest and with my monthly giveaways, I do see that there are some who use my links from Pinterest to get to the blog to enter. I don’t put much effort into FB, IG or TW but I put only slightly more into Pinterest. I guess there’s supposedly a benefit to them all but I haven’t figured it out yet. Pretty much it all serves to make me feel inadequate but I feel I must continue because apparently social media is very important to the blogger 😛 I love your pick of the week for the link-up – how fun they are! Thanks so much for hosting another one. I’ve added my link (not an outfit this week, though).

I hate social media! Sorry, but it is so fake! Sometimes I post things and think to myself… and now I put some comfy clothes on! Or remove the makeup immediately ?
Others just paint 1 eye! They call it a look! ?

Haha really? No we me it’s what you see is how it is!
Hi Nancy! You know me, I have a total love/hate relationship with Social Media – especially Instagram. I say if it is enjoyable, use it. If not, take a break. It’s really as simple as that. Don’t spend time on a platform that brings you frustration (like Twitter!) …. not every platform works for everyone, I believe that. I happen to love Pinterest, but it’s the Platform that gets the most authentic love from my end. BTW, I just pinned your look 🙂
Happy Holidays my friend!

Thanks Suzanne, I appreciate that! We(me) should be more relaxed over social media!!
I get you on the social media thing, Nancy. I try not to bother too much. It’s nice to have followers and that people comment on my blog, and I’m not saying it doesn’t bother me at all when I get less comments, but then I remind myself that I started blogging purely for myself. I got to know some very nice people (you included!), and I’m happy with this, but blogging is still something I do for a hobby. I’m on Facebook, but don’t do much there, except for sharing the link to my posts and keeping on track of what my friends are doing. I hardly ever use Pinterest, even though I do have an account, so this is why I don’t pin your photos 🙂 The only one I really like is Instagram, and I’m trying to post a daily photo, but I’m not there to grow my number of followers. I’m loving your outfit by the way, especially that amazing belt! xxx
Author
Thanks Ann! I also only share on Facebook and Twitter and I do like Instagram!
I can agree with what you said Nancy. I am not a fan of social media and it really is sometimes a big waste of time. The only positive are the people I have met and for that, I am grateful. So with that said, I focus on quality content at least to my standards even if I don’t post often. I figured eventually someone will come across my work that will appreciate it and I am okay with that kind of progress and just chug along.

Nancy, your outfit is SO cute! The boots with the obi belt tie it all together so nicely. You look cozy yet stylish! I pin to Pinterest and seem to get a lot of interest, but not many clicks to my blog. Hmm. BTW, I DO pin your pics to Pinterest! IG is frustrating to me, mostly because I have to do everything on my phone. I also got lots of shady men wanting to connect, so I’ve put that one on hold for now. I know that’s bad if you want to work with brands, but they are not beating down my door anyway! Haha! In short, I totally share your frustration!!
xx Darlene
BTW, I didn’t know you had a FB page, so I just joined! Mine does ok–I’ve “met” some great ladies on FB who comment and look. My FB page is (surprisingly!) AquamarinaStyle.

Yes I agree, it’s the perspective that we need to change!
I love the pleated skirt. I wear mine with jumpers too. As for social media, I think we and our followers are fed up with seeing the same formulaic stuff and hashtag ads. Its lost its attraction all around. I know that I follow much less now those that only are showing ads for instance. My mindset has switched back to fun and photographic techniques and learning new editing. I’m doing it for my satisfaction and not audience demand if you are what I mean. However I have noticed what were once popular tags are now nothing much at all on IG. I think people are just going, but to where I do not know.
Author
Yes I agree! The important thing is that we have fun writing our blogs!
Love that skirt and the belt looks great over your knit! 🙂
I try to use hootsuite to schedule my Twitter and facebook posts so I can do them in bulk but it’s a bit time consuming so I don’t always do it – I use Instagram more but probably wouldn’t have twitter or Instagram if it wasn’t for the blog.
Thank you for the link up! Hope you had a merry Christmas 🙂

I think I would keep IG if I wasn’t blogging but no Pinterest, Twitter and Facebook!~
It’s all so annoying at times isn’t it Nancy, I’ve appreciated the down time over Christmas, but am looking forward to getting back into the driving seat and blogging! Happy New Year Hun. x

Hi Nancy, lovely outfit and didn’t kniw tgd belt was called Obi, learned something new; I’ve been calling it a wrap leather belt lol.
As far as social media I’m only on IG and Pinterest because I do like looking at photos and I’ve met so many interesting people. I’ve reconciled that some on IG have their agendas (following then unfollowing when you follow them) it use to bother me but now it doesn’t as I can only account for my actions. So I treat social media as a way it should be in my mind, for socializing, no expectations other than that because then I can enjoy it more. I’ve chosen to go on when I want and stay off as long as I like. I did Facebook some years ago and just didn’t like it, felt like I was judging people; so I stay away as I need my peace. I know many do social media to grow their blogs and get their names out there and there’s nothing wrong with that, for me it takes a lot of time and just something I’m not willing to do right now. Hopefully I got my point across, lol, good post Nancy!
Author
Thanks for your good comment. I especially appreciate: I can only account for my actions. That’s a good one, not only for social media, but just in life! Thanks!
I love this gray, tan, and white outfit, Nancy! And I DO pin outfits from nearly every post I visit! But like you, I cannot figure out these Pinterest numbers or the slow growth of IG or any of it really. I get frustrated then I throw my hands in the air and forget about it. Because what else can I do? Wishing you a very happy New Year, my friend!

I tried all sorts of social media, and I can say that I like Instagram the most. But I’m not alone. That’s why Instagram is oversaturated. The results are already visible – the reach dropped dramatically. Another reason why the reach dropped so much could be that Instagram wants people to pay for promotion to get the reach they had before. I feel that creators are kind of tired too. It takes so much time to create, post, and to engage. It could be exhausted and with minimal results. That’s why I’m taking regular breaks from social media. And I do what I like and what makes me happy.
I wish you a Happy New Year 2020!

Nancy, thank you so much for the feature! I am honored!
And your outfit is lovely! Off-white is certainly not a bad color on you by any means. You look warm, but stylish.
As for social media….., I had a FB business page, but eventually deleted it. It never seemed to grow organically. (I blame FB – it wants you to buy ads.) And all the groups where you follow each other never netted any real interest. I do have my personal FB page, and occasionally post to it. And I met my husband on FB, so I have a soft spot for it. As far as Instagram, I like it, but it never seems to crossover. Twitter? I have an account, but I don’t really use it. I’ve started trying to remember to post my blogs there, but it feels pointless. I love Pinterest, because I store my ideas there, and I do think I posted one of your blogs there, but again, there is no crossover. I am beginning to think it takes a blogger to appreciate other bloggers. I realize this is no help, but I thought I would commiserate. ?

You met your husband through Facebook? How amazing is that! And blogging is so very nice because of the interaction with other bloggers!
Nancy I know what you mean. I find it very difficult to keep up with everyone. I only do one blog post a week and that is time consuming. Instagram is what I prefer and I post a few times a week, but it is over saturated and I miss so many people. But I have met wonderful people, whom I admire, that is the bonus. Love the chunky sweater with the skirt. XXX

Thank you very much Hilda!
Eh, I can’t be bothered with social media. I don’t have a phone (REALLY!), so IG and Twitter have no allure for me. I get lots of interaction at a level I can handle through my blog, and that’s good enough for me.
Love your outfit – I wore a very similarly-structured one for New Year’s Eve!

I love the fact you don’t have a phone! How relaxing that must be!
I couldn’t agree more. Social Media can be really daunting at times. Anyway, the belt really wrapped up the look.

I love the obi belt with the chunky sweater, fabulous outfit! I’ve been very quiet on social media recently, mainly because of being ill and then busy with Christmas. I’m trying to get back into it now but it’s very frustrating because it seems Facebook and IG want people to pay for exposure. I actually stopped using Facebook a few weeks ago – it was becoming a time suck and I needed to invest my time more wisely. I’ve been learning languages instead which hopefully will be much more useful. IG is over-saturated and I miss posts from some of my favourite accounts. Also my engagement rate has dropped dramatically. My Pinterest impressions also dropped and I find my feed cluttered with promoted pins which are not relevant to me. I click on the dots in the corner and report them as not relevant but it doesn’t seem to make much difference!

I have to say that I was blocked for a couple of weeks on Facebook and it actually felt pretty good! Thanks Emma!
Hi Nancy! Last days I was in a store and found a white sweater like this one. I was with my husband and he was trying to convince me to buy it, but I did not know how to pair it or with what to pair it… But seeing now your outfit, which I love, makes me think that I should go and buy the sweater… well, and buy a belt like that one and also a velvet skirt !
Concerning the social media, I understand what are you saying… I actually stopped using social media, even if, sometimes I think is not a good decision… I am following posts on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, but Twitter is not my style… but I am trying to organize my time more wisely: my new resolution is to connect more with people through their blogs and also through my blog.
Happy New Year, Nancy !!!

Yes, I am focusing on IG because I like that one, but I am not going to put much energy in the other ones! Thanks!
I think there is good and bad that comes with social media. But it was designed for people to express themselves in their own way and even share their content with like minded people globally. And that is what it should be used for. Unfortunately there are people who take advantage and make it into a bad place. I love what you shared and your outfit here gives me such fall inspiration. It is one of my fav seasons. I hope that you are enjoying the seasonal changes and the start to your week.
