THE BAD BUY BOOK: BAGS & FANCY FRIDAY LINKUP

Welcome to December’s edition of The Bad Buy Book! This month’s theme is: Bags!

The Bad Buy Book is a series hosted by Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge and Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style. We wanted to establish together something fun and new. We both talked about our,,Sitting Shoes,, and so we came up with the idea for The Bad Buy Book!

We all do our best to look great in our outfits, choose the right accessories, the right makeup, the perfect shoes, and wait for the best light to shoot the most flattering outfit photos. And now we are asking you to show us the items you don’t feel your very best in. You know, those ,,Sitting Shoes,, that dress that is actually not quite your color, the skirt that is a size too small but the saleswoman said it looked amazing. We all own those items!  And while they may look fabulous, they don’t always feel fabulous! So we want you to show us your bad buys and tell us the story about them! What made you purchase the item?  And why do you dislike it now?  And why not share them with us?  We buy these things for a reason then hide them in the back of the closet.  Now it’s their turn to share the limelight.

Every month on the 15th, we will both publish a post sharing the photos you have sent us along with a few sentences about the bad buy. Photo submissions will be due by the 1 st of each month so we have time to edit and compile all of the entries. At the end of each post we will let you know the theme for the next month’s post. Photos and the story of your ”Bad Buy” can be emailed to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or batennancy@gmail.com. Please put”Bad Buy” in the subject line.

So let’s take a look at our Bad Buy Bags!

First, as always, my lovely co-host Shelbee of Shelbee on the EdgeThe Bad Buy Book: Bags

I really wanted a small red cross body bag and picked this one up on sale at Target.  It’s not a bad bag really.  The size and style are exactly what I wanted, but the red is almost too orange and doesn’t match any of the reds in my closet.  It looks great if I have no other red in the outfit that I am pairing it with.  But if I am shooting for red, this bag was a big fail!

And of course Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Stylethe bad buy book: bags

Hi guys

I’m sending in another photo of my step mom, Nancy (the 60+ model on my blog) for your bad buys for bags!

Nancy wanted a blush purse and so picked this up at DSW. However, when she got home, she realized it was hard to fit all of her stuff in it, and then close the top over it. At least it was around her birthday, so I knew what to buy her!! And then she returned this one!

XOXO

And my Bad Buy Bag.The Bad Buy Book: bagsThe Bad Buy Book: Bagsdata:text/mce-internal,content,%3Cimg%20class%3D%22aligncenter%20size-medium%20wp-image-7168%22%20src%3D%22https%3A//nancysfashionstyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/DSC03907-800x800.jpg%22%20alt%3D%22The%20Bad%20Buy%20Book%3A%20Bags%22%20/%3EOkay, it needs a bit of explaining. I always have to carry my oxygen concentrator with me and the first photo is with the bag that belongs to it. I don’t like that bag and it has no pockets, so where do I have to put my phone, lipstick and keys? So Gerben has adjusted two bags so that I can put my device in a nicer bag. It’s not really a bad buy, more a must buy.

I hope you all enjoyed reading our post and we hope you will join us next month with: Wintercoats!

Let’s take a look at our Bad Buy Cardigans!

First my always lovely and supportive co-host Shelbee of Shelbee on the EdgeThe bad buy book: cardigansI couldn’t resist this chunky knit kimono style cardigan on clearance from Target.  I loved the light blue color and the fringed hem and the cozy style, but it is kind of frumpy.  I still wear it often when I just want to be cozy, but there is no way to avoid the frump factor in this one!The Bad buy book: cardigansThis black and white polka dot cardigan is one of my favorites, so I guess it isn’t really a bad buy…except that it is way too small and has been since the day I bought it.  I just have to always wear it open with only a very light layer underneath it.

Nancy:(I remember when you showed it on the blog, I loved this outfit very much and I searched for a cardigan like that myself, without succes)

And here is Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of StyleThe Bad Buy Book: cardigans

I’m actually submitting my step mom, Nancy’s photo for your challenge!!

This cardigan was just too big for her, and she actually ended up giving it to my husband to wear. (Don’t tell her, but since it’s in my closet, I actually wear it around the house too since it’s so warm). So it may have been a bad buy for her, but a good thing for me—ha ha!!!

And finally my Bad Buy cardiganThe Bad Buy Book: cardigans

I am banishing all of white tops and cardigans out of my closet since I learned, through these Bad Buy series, that I must not wear that color in my face! This is the last one to go.The Bad Buy Book: cardigans

And this is also such a awfull one! Why? I just don’t like purple! Any shade of purple!

I hope you enjoyed our Bad Buy Book serie! Next month’s theme is: Bags!

So, time to take a look at our Bad Buy Skirts!

First is my dear co-host Shelbee of Shelbee on the EdgeThe Bad Buy Book: skirts“When I saw this faux leather pencil skirt, I had to have it.  Because, well, a black leather pencil skirt is completely bad ass.  But only if it fits properly.  Which it doesn’t.  It is crazy tight around the midsection.  I can’t sit or breathe in it!  But the next size up was much too big.  And how the heck do you get those horrible creases out of the faux leather?  I haven’t a clue.”

( I iron faux leather skirts Shelbee! Inside out!)

Next the always lovely Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style

The Bad Buy Book: skirts

“Well, it’s another episode of what Jodie can buy that really doesn’t work—ha ha!! ( Jodie’s words, not ours!)

Here’s my maxi skirt that I bought last year at the thrift store! I wanted a knit maxi skirt, and I love the colors, but it just didn’t work well for my style. There was too much going on in the print, and I never felt comfortable wearing it!!

I suppose I could have tried other options to see if something would work, but I gave up and donated it!”

And  finally me with my bad Buy skirt. The Bad Buy Book: skirtsI bought this one on a market in Rye on a holiday. Very cheap! I fall for cheap, isn’t that awfull! But I only like the colors, nothing else. It’s cotton and I don’t like cotton. It doesn’t form to your body. The Bad Buy Book: skirtsThis is also a bad buy skirt, it’s actually a very boring color and I never wear it as a skirt. I wore it here as a dress! But this one I bought when I was still working and got 50% discount, so I bought a lot of clothing then………still do……without the discount…..

That’s it for this month! Hope you liked to read about our Bad Buys and that you will participate next month!

Let’s take a look at our Bad Buy Sandals!

First my lovely co-host Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge.

I bought these Steve Madden platform slides recently at DSW and I love the look of them.  They weren’t really even that comfortable in the store, but they were on super deep discount so I snagged them up.  I wore them to walk through the mall one time and I was presented with the harsh reality that these are definitely “sitting sandals”!  They tore the life out of the top of my foot!

And Shelbee is (just like me) very good in Buying Bad sandals!  Another pair!

These block heel slides by Christian Siriano for Payless filled a need in my closet for a plain black open toe slide for summer.  They are not terrible, but they definitely start slicing open the top of my toes after too much walking!

The Bad Buy Book: sandals

Here is our very loyal contributor Jodie with her mum Charlotte of Jodie’s Touch of StyleThe Bad Buy Book: SandalsHey guys…

Do I have a pair of sandals for you!!

These even went through 2 of us, before they were given away!!

You can see in the first photo, that my mom is wearing these white sandals. She bought them at Target and tried to wear them for a while. But the straps just weren’t comfortable on her feet! So she passed them down to me since we have basically the same size shoe!! Well I tried to wear them too! You can see them in the next photo of me!! They weren’t even that high, but for some reason they just hurt when I tried to wear them all day!The Bad Buy Book: Sandals

Therefore they got the boot–ha ha!!

Here is Anne from Spy Girl

The Bad Buy Book: sandals

She calls these the torture clogs! Haha.

And finally myselfThe Bad Buy Book: Sandals

These are all sandals that I bought as: for lack of better. The toe sandals are really to painfull, and the others are just so boring! I absolutely have to try harder not to buy for lack of better!

So that’s all for this month!

Next month’s theme will be: Skirts!

This month theme is,,Trousers”! You know the too loose, too long, too short, too baggy, too staticky, too itchy, too hot, too thin…..or whatever the case may be!

Well, let’s take a look now at your bad buy trousers!

First of all my lovely co-host Shelbee. The Bad Buy Book trousersI am always a sucker for a great pair of distressed jeans and I also am a fan of higher quality denim.  When I saw these on sale at American Eagle, I wanted to give them a try.  I really liked the high waisted style when I tried them on, but I tried them on with a long tunic so they look slouchy and cute.  But when I tucked a shirt into them to try to dress them up, it made me have the most puffy belly pouch ever!  And no one wants that.  I still wear them, but with longer shirts and really as just knock-around jeans now.

Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of StyleJodie in The Bad Buy Book trousers“It sure makes me feel better to know that I’m not the only one who buys the wrong items at times!!

I never realized these pants were that bad. I used to wear them to work (but in my defense, they might look a tidge better with heels??). Anyways when I wore them as a comparison for our floral shirt post last summer, I realized that they just were not flattering. So I gave them away.

I think taking photos of our outfits can be so enlightening at times!! The mirror can certainly lie (or else I need some new glasses–ha ha)”

Jodie showed us her beautiful floral blouse on jeans! Jodie in The Bad Buy Book trousersThat’s much better Jodie, if I may say so.

Your host NancyThe Bad Buy Book trousersI don’t like jeans! Here in my area everybody wears jeans! Why I bought these I don’t know. They fit perfectly, they are highwaisted, they even gave me a but! But it is just not me! I felt like a total different person wearing them! I only wore them for the blog.

Next month theme is ,,Jewelery”. So it’s time to take a picture of those heavy earrings, the bracelet that leaves stains, the gifted necklace that you hate, the ring that you can”t take of unless you keep your hand in the fridge for half an hour. I think you understand what we mean.

Every month on the 15 th, we will both publish a post sharing the photos you have sent us along with a few sentences about the bad buy. Photo submissions will be due by the 1 st of each month so we have time to edit and compile all of the entries. At the end of each post we will let you know the theme for the next month’s post. Photos and the story of your ”Bad Buy” can be emailed to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or nancybaten@upcmail.nl. Please put”Bad Buy” in the subject line.

Unfortunately we do not have many Bad Buy looks this week to show you and we therefore hope very much that you are going to send massive pictures for next month!

Happy Easter weekend all!

,,Sitting Shoes”

This month’s theme is ,,Sitting Shoes”. You know those shoes that are absolutely adorable, complete stunners, to die for, those had-to-have-them shoes. The ones that were so perfect in the store but turned out to be the most uncomfortable, intolerable shoes ever. Those are the shoes that Shelbee and I like to call,,Sitting Shoes”.

The theme for April will be Trousers! Share your photos of those trousers that you thought were perfect but turned out to be too loose, too baggy, too long, too short, too staticky, too itchy, too hot, too thin…..or whatever the case may be!

You can send us your picture with a few words to: shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to nancybaten@upcmail.nl

The submission date is the first of April.

Well, let’s take a look now at your,,Sitting Shoes”!

Your host Shelbee

The Bad Buy Book Sitting Shoes

I found these wedges on clearance for a great deal and thought they were so versatile with the nude color.  And I loved the cork texture of the thong.  I should have heeded the warning that there were SO many pairs of them left on clearance.  It is the worst shoe design ever.  A thong on a high wedge.  As your heel is lifted up by the wedge heel, the thong jams so hard in between your toes that you can’t walk ten feet without severe pain!  It is so obvious, yet I was so blinded by the “great deal”!

Rena from It’s all Fine. Whatever tickles the Fancy

Rena in The Bad Buy Book Sitting Shoes

I bought these boots on-line this past December and when I first tried them on, the heel didn’t seem so high.  It wasn’t until we had to walk about a block from our townhouse to the location when this photo was taken that I realized that these boots were definitely “sitting shoes”

Jodie from Jodie’s Touch of Style

These red sandals were a great deal when I got them. And they were fine wearing them for the first hour. But after that, the straps dug into my foot too much!!

Needless to say, I just gave them away. And am on the hunt for another pair of red sandals—they go with everything!!

These boots are so beautiful! But they are true off boots! I can not walk on these, but because I find them so stylish I wear them when I need to go somewhere quickly. For an errand or when I have to go to work. At work they go out! But I have, in any case, stylishly arrived!

“I have a fabulous friend that bought me these boots as a total surprise. (Her name might be Shelbee). I couldn’t wait to wear them, and at the time I had no boots of this style or height. They were tough to get on, even though I have a narrow foot, and you have grab the mesh area to help ease them up. Unfortunately, they ripped the first time I wore them and after about 45 minutes, were extremely tough to walk in. They are loose at the leg, and all of the weight is on your toes. These are my fabulous, stylish, sittin’ boots.”

These pumps were a thrift store find that I was giddy over because they are real leather and were showing hardly any wear.  It turns out that they are not so comfortable for much walking even though the heel is somewhat moderate.  There is no cushioning in the insole so a pad may help but I haven’t try that yet.

Your host NancyThe Bad Buy Book Sitting ShoesI bought these years ago and also in brown and blue. All three are horrible to walk. They are simply painful. But so beautiful…sigh.

Thank you all for your contribution! We hope to see a lot of your worst trousers!
