Styled by……….

Styled by…..tells the story behind someones style. What does a person tell by the way she or he is dressed?  What does it say about their personality? When did they began to create their own style? The series is published every first Tuesday of the month.

Do you also have a story to tell, and do you also have beautiful pictures of your style evolution? I, and many of my readers, want to read your story! I would love it if you can join the fun too! You can find all the info in the Styled by…..page or contact me via batennancy@gmail.com.

So let’s see who tells this month abouth her style!

Styled by………Nina

My style revolves around one thing: dresses! Hello I’m Nina, the blogger behind A World of Dresses. My blog is all about my dresses and the adventures I go on in them. Several years ago, a friend or two had suggested that I blog about all my dresses. Before I was a blogger, everyone knew me as the girl who was always in a dress. So I decided to do it and created A World of Dresses. I purposefully entitled it that because I want to be able to blog about traveling in the future. One year into my blogging journey, I moved to Spain to teach English. Thus began the travel blog side of A World of Dresses.

Overall, my blog consists of fashion tips, dress looks, travel tips, travel stories and posts about the expat life. I’m not just a travel blogger. I also decided to live my life in a different country. That’s an experience not many of us choose, so I like to blog about it.styled by .......nina

Where it all started

I would say that my personal style really developed in university. I definitely had a personal style in high school and I think that style still influences what I wear today. It was feminine with lots of girly tops, floral skirts, jewelry and makeup. I do remember in high school how much I didn’t want to fit the mold. So I would wear lots of band t-shirts and my Chuck Taylor sneakers. High school is such a funny time. Looking back, we simply had no idea who we were.

When I went to college, I found that my style really evolved more than anything. As I became more confident in who I was, I had less of a need to dress differently. I was happy with who I was, so I wore what made me happy. And that was dresses.data:text/mce-internal,content,%3Cimg%20class%3D%22aligncenter%20size-full%20wp-image-8738%22%20src%3D%22https%3A//nancysfashionstyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/ronda17.jpg%22%20alt%3D%22styled%20by.......nina%22%20/%3E

I remember discovering that I could wear a dress in everyday life. Like I didn’t need a formal event to wear one. This blew my mind. I also remember talking about how when you buy a dress, you basically are buying a whole outfit. So that way of thinking justified many dress purchases.

When I would go home to Cincinnati on weekends and breaks, my mother was notorious for handing me cash and saying “shhh don’t tell your dad!” As a college student, I of course never refused money from my wonderful mother. Around my sophomore year, she started adding in “and don’t go buy dresses with it!” I think that’s when I realized I had developed quite a love for dresses.styled by .......nina

Why dresses?

I have always loved feminine things such as floral prints and bright colors. There are just so many cute dresses out there! I just love them and cannot really explain why. They’re just fun. I love to have fun with what I wear.

I love vintage styles. The dresses throughout the years were so unique. The flapper style of the 20’s was amazing. The 60’s will always get me. I love the style of all the women on Mad Men. Then of course the 70’s and 80’s were awesome too. I used to live above a vintage shop. That was dangerous. Then I ended up selling some of my dresses back to that shop when I was planning to move overseas.

At the end of the day, I just love the feeling of putting on a dress. When I shop, I typically go straight to the dress section.

I do sometimes wear pants. I will admit that. Here in Spain, I teach English to children. Sometimes that involves sitting on the floor and playing games. Those are days that I might (gasp) wear pants. However when it’s a “me” day where I’m traveling or getting together with friends, I almost always wear a dress.

My dress style

My favorite style of a dress is fit and flare. I just find that that style is the most flattering on me. I also love a shift dress. It took me a while to get on board with the maxi dress trend. However now I have one that I love. The only style I’m not a huge fan of is the bodycon. I get self-conscious of my belly and overall just do not think it’s flattering on me.styled by .......nina

As mentioned above, I go for lots of floral prints. I actually went shopping with a friend several weeks ago. We were planning on going out that night, so we both wanted to buy something to wear. She was like “Nina you always wear florals.” I suppose I hadn’t realized it. So I bought a black romper that looks like a skirt in the front (totally not my typical style) and she wore something with florals on it that night. It was like we had switched.

Other style staples

Overall, my style is super feminine. I love to pair my dresses with boots or heels. I have from time to time paired my dresses with my Chuck Taylor sneakers. That can be done well … it just depends on the dress. Since I have so many bold dresses, I love to find a few pairs of more neutral-colored shoes that can go with all of them. So my shoes end up being black, nude or brown. I did recently step out of my comfort zone and get some floral boots!styled by .......nina

I love to wear big jewelry. Dangly earrings are my favorite. I love statement necklaces and classic pieces. I have never been much of a ring girl. I have one watch with this cool map of the world. I would like to add a few more watches to my collection.

Dress tips

I believe that you can wear a dress just about whenever you want. If you wish to dress it down, add some boots or sneakers. If you wish to dress it up, add some heels. Flats and sandals are also perfect for the warmer months.styled by .......nina

I continue wearing dresses when the weather gets cold. I simply stock up on some nice tights. I love sweater tights. I also love to wear leggings over tights for that extra layer of warmth. Then you just put boots over it all and it looks like the leggings are your tights.

How often do you wear a dress? What is your favorite dress?

Today I have a names4ever giveaway for you!

Especially for you! A fantastic names4ever giveaway! Because it makes me so very happy to have you as my readers. I have mentioned it before, I do not imagine myself (actually my blog) to be bigger as I am. I’m just a very tiny blogger from the Netherlands. I don’t get dressed by great designers, I don’t go to fantastic places to shoot the outfit. I am just Nancy. But when I see that so many of you respond to my posts and so many of you join the linkup and I get so many lovely comments, I feel proud! I am proud of my blog! And that’s for a great part thanks to you. So when Chantal of names4ever approached me for a collaboration, I asked her if we could also do a giveaway. And so here we are, a giveaway for you to say THANK YOU!

Also if you are already searching for Christmas presents, this is a fantastic option! A personalized gift is fabulous to give and to receive!

My name necklace

Because I don’t wear silver I got to choose a goldplated  name necklace. I chose relatively simple letters, I like things simple! But you can choose by so many sorts, it’s for all tastes. The lenght of the necklace is perfect, it is a beautiful piece of jewelry. This is my necklace.

And now the names4ever giveaway!

This is the necklace that you can win! And what do I have to do, you wonder. Nothing! You don’t have to follow me on social media if you don’t want to, you don’t have to like anything. You are here and that’s enough for me. So please tell me in the comment if you want to join the giveaway. If you did not mention that you wanted to win, I will exclude you from the giveaway. Yes I know, I am very strickt. You are not the first one to tell me that! Lol. But I think it’s not fair if someone wins who could not be bothered. By the way, everyone can join. Names4ever sends orders to many countries, and the ones they don’t send to, I will!names4ever giveawaynames4ever giveawaynames4ever giveawaynames4ever giveawaynames4ever giveawaynames4ever giveaway

HERRINGBONE TROUSERS WITH BLUE BOOTS AND BLUE CARDIGAN & FANCY FRIDAY LINKUP

Have you ever heard of a herringbone pattern ?

While writing down the title, I suddenly realize that a long long time ago, when I was 16, I bought a second hand coat. I told you before that thrift shopping is not for me. I gave it a chance, or two, last summer in the UK, but no it’s not for me. But back then it was apparently. That coat was a herringbone wool blend coat. A fabulous coat, I remember I felt so fashionable in that coat. When Gerben and I went shopping, when I also bought this dress, he came up with these trousers and said: these I like! Oh, a herringbone one! I liked it too!

Herringbone with blue

Herringbone patterns are often found on tweed clothing. And I always have loved tweed. Especially of course the classic Chanel tweed. But back in the eighties this pattern was very popular. And this is the season that the eighties are hot again. Think shoulder pads, pointed boots, big hair(yeah) and the herringbone pattern. What I also bought on that shopping day were these boots and this cardigan. I didn’t buy them to match the trousers, but I thought: well, I don’t have a light blue cardigan yet. And later in another store: well, I don’t have blue ankle boots. I know, it was a ,,just buy what I want,, kind a day! ( and I enjoyed it).

I think these blue shades work very well with the trousers. It would be obvious to wear black or perhaps some red with it. I think the blue gives a bit of winter crisp feel to it, you know, ice, snow, all the things I hate. Haha. But any color is good. I am wearing fishnet socks with a bow at the back. Aren’t they lovely?herringbone trousersherringbone trousersherringbone trousersherringbone trousersherringbone trousersherringbone trousersherringbone trousersherringbone trousers

CLASSIC TWEED JACKET & FANCY FRIDAY LINKUP

I adore a classic tweed jacket

You know which one I mean: the classic Chanel tweed jacket! Oh I can be completely lyrical about it. The design, the cut, the colors, the fabric, the buttons! Oh sigh, I could stare at a original Chanel jacket for hours, so beautiful. A classic Chanel tweed jacket and the Hermès Birkin bag! Oh if I ever won lots of money…..Those two are pieces that do something to me, want to touch it, smell it…okay, I just shut up before you all think I’m totally crazy and the only thing I see in the comments is: Nancy, take it slow dear!

My (afordable) classic tweed jacket

*Actually, it didn’t cost me anything, because I was allowed to choose something from Shein. And I knew straight away it would be a tweed jacket. And fortunately they had a decent collection. Perhaps I never searched that well, but it seems to me that tweed is more trendy and available now then other years.

But then the styling

I thought a long time of how I would show you this jacket. Would I show it the elegant more sophisticated way, with pearls and all, the classic way, the obvious way? Or my way, how I would wear it on a everage day, boots and so. I decided for my way. But I can see me wearing this jacket on my black bodycon dress with Pearls and pumps! For Christmas….or…do you think by that time I spotted something new……

Well, my way is with a denim pencilskirt, black suede boots with a gold colored touch a simple black turtleneck and a gold colored necklace. And for a bit of fun a cat brooche. Do you love tweed jackets as much as I do?classic tweed jacketclassic tweed jacketclassic tweed jacketclassic tweed jacketclassic tweed jacketclassic tweed jacketclassic tweed jacketclassic tweed jacket
