Have you ever heard of a herringbone pattern ?

While writing down the title, I suddenly realize that a long long time ago, when I was 16, I bought a second hand coat. I told you before that thrift shopping is not for me. I gave it a chance, or two, last summer in the UK, but no it’s not for me. But back then it was apparently. That coat was a herringbone wool blend coat. A fabulous coat, I remember I felt so fashionable in that coat. When Gerben and I went shopping, when I also bought this dress, he came up with these trousers and said: these I like! Oh, a herringbone one! I liked it too!

Herringbone with blue

Herringbone patterns are often found on tweed clothing. And I always have loved tweed. Especially of course the classic Chanel tweed. But back in the eighties this pattern was very popular. And this is the season that the eighties are hot again. Think shoulder pads, pointed boots, big hair(yeah) and the herringbone pattern. What I also bought on that shopping day were these boots and this cardigan. I didn’t buy them to match the trousers, but I thought: well, I don’t have a light blue cardigan yet. And later in another store: well, I don’t have blue ankle boots. I know, it was a ,,just buy what I want,, kind a day! ( and I enjoyed it).

I think these blue shades work very well with the trousers. It would be obvious to wear black or perhaps some red with it. I think the blue gives a bit of winter crisp feel to it, you know, ice, snow, all the things I hate. Haha. But any color is good. I am wearing fishnet socks with a bow at the back. Aren’t they lovely?herringbone trousersherringbone trousersherringbone trousersherringbone trousersherringbone trousersherringbone trousersherringbone trousersherringbone trousers

Such a huge trend at the moment Nancy. Herringbone , tweed or checks I love them all at the moment. The trousers look great with the boots and I like the sock detail xx

    • November 17, 2017 / 9:18 am

Thank you Laurie. I love tweed too!

  2. November 17, 2017 / 12:39 am

Nancy, these boots are amazing! And I love the little bow fishnet ankle socks. I don’t have light blue booties and now I want a pair (although I did just order white ones, teal ones, and magenta ones, so I suppose I should stop for now!). And herringbone has always been a favorite of mine. It is so classic and versatile and yet you can totally sass it up all edgy the way that I like! You are looking fabulous, my friend!

    • November 17, 2017 / 9:19 am

Thank you very much love! Haha, you shopped a lot of boots! Fantastic! Want to see them all!

  3. November 17, 2017 / 2:30 am

Ooh I love this outfit! I’ve always loved herringbone. So classic but also a bit funky. And almost a neutral, really, as it goes so well with so many different colors!

    • November 17, 2017 / 9:19 am

Yes it does! Thank you dear!

  4. November 17, 2017 / 5:48 am

Fab boots! Suede? They look like that. I’m envious, I wish I could wear something like that (suede doesn’t do well with sleet and slush…)

    • November 17, 2017 / 9:24 am

Yes, it is. I avoid sleet and Slush

I love your pants, and the sweetness and softness of your cardigan. The entire color combination, including the beautiful booties, creates an elegant and attractive outfit. And that hair … it makes everything so much more attractive!

I do love herringbone although I don;t any at the moment. The blue is a great and unexpected addition but the real star is those boots! Love those! And the socks too – how fun Nancy!

nancy what great colors. you inspire me to get out of my usual black or brown when it comes to shoes and get some color!

    • November 17, 2017 / 4:16 pm

Haha, well that is fantastic! Thank you!

  12. November 17, 2017 / 2:53 pm

How cute are those boots? What a great colour. You know how I love me some boots : )

I consider herringbone, tweed and houndstooth all to be classic textile patterns. I find lots of great pencil skirts from the 50 & 60s in these patterns.

    • November 17, 2017 / 4:18 pm

Oh I bett you do! Those are the best! I can remember my grandmother had a grey tweed skirt with laquer pumps with a bow on it! Fantastic!

Oh wow!! You’ve totally inspired me with this creative colour combination, dearest Nancy…who would have thought that baby blue and black could look so lovely together?! And let’s not forget those terrific tweed trousers, either; it certainly looks like you and your hubby had a very “fruitful” shopping date!! 😀 P.S. I agree – your bow-embellished ankle socks are the most adorable finishing touch!! XOXO
