What is a skater dress actually?

A skater dress is a dress with a tight upper body and a flared skirt. The name comes from the eighties when designers got inspired by skate clothing. Usually you see the shorter versions, but I prefer my skater dress slightly longer. I must appologize for the photos. And also for those frome next Tuesday. It froze a few degrees, and something was not set up properly with the camera. Gerben was checking it very calmly and I was dying of the cold. So then I said, quitte irritated, make the damn pictures please! Because of the poor lighting you don’t see my goosebumps!

It’s time for a new dress!

I noticed that my closet with skirts was pretty stuffed, and the one with the dresses wasn’t, so it was time to buy some dresses! Just kidding. But I havn’t bought a dress yet this season, so I shopped for dresses! Last week my girlfriend Celina and I were invited to attend a fashion show and shopping evening at the shop of a former colleague. Of course we went out for diner before! It’s now the time to buy party dresses and they showed many during the fashionshow. I bought a bodycon dress with a leather bolero. I will show you soon. First I’ll show you my skater dress. I have always worn pencil skirts and bodycon dresses, and all of a sudden I see a lot of wide skirts in my closet. But just one wider dress. This one, the print of the skater dress reminded me of this one. And I always love to wear dresses especially for the holidays. So my mind was fixed on skater dresses.  Actually, if I am honest, I think this dress isn’t working for me. I prefer the lenght a bit longer, on the knee not above. But I think the design of the dress was so nice that I choose it anyway. And I love the collar on the dress. It adds a bit more. I don’t like a round neck and a V-neck is so hard to find. I never understood that why it is so hard to find a good V-neck dress, many women want a V-neck.

How to style a skater dress?

Well…not! Haha, you know I am a plain Jane. I like things simple. Just some leather boots with a small heel and some bracelets in the colore of the dress. But when I want to style it more casual then I would wear it with the boots that I refered to and wear it with a grog knitted cardigan. And add a big brooche on the cardigan.

How would you style a skater dress?

I love print part of this dress. I couldn’t figure out if you were wearing a cami under it or if it was part of the dress. Until I saw that same print in the pleats of the dress—how beautiful!
As for the length of the dress, I think it’s quite perfect for you….I mean, hey! You have wonderful legs—it’s not like it’s a mini. And heck, if you got some OTK boots, I bet you’d even think it’s too long!!

Haha, Thank you! I like the dress more and more!

Very cute dress. I usually like a dress to hit at the knee too, but this one looks very nice on you with it a little shorter. I love the neckline. Very feminine. I think it would look cute with tights and heels too. – Amy

You had me laughing about “take the darn picture” as I was in the same boat yesterday freezing outside in my little dress for next week! I was irritated too! Love this type of dress on you, perfect with your lovely figure. 🙂

I love the retro feel of this dress with the printed panels peeking out from the bust and skirt pleats. I’m all about the skater dress silhouette. It feels so 50s and feminine, and there’s lots of styling potential. That belt is a fabulous finishing touch!

    • December 9, 2016 / 10:50 pm

The dress is actually a bit to wide on the waist, so I used this elastic belt! These kind of dresses look very good on you!

This is one cool skater dress. So many unique details.

I like your choice of boots for this.

I totally understand not wanting to take photos outside when it is cold. We now have snow here…there is NO WAY I’m braving the cold for some photos.

    • December 12, 2016 / 11:11 pm

I hate snow! Ha ha ha, I want it to be summer again. Thank you Suzanne!

Your dress is fabulous! I love the contrast of the two fabrics. Skater dresses are very flattering, especially when they have a collar. You look stunning!
