Welcome to December’s edition of The Bad Buy Book! This month’s theme is: Bags!

The Bad Buy Book is a series hosted by Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge and Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style. We wanted to establish together something fun and new. We both talked about our,,Sitting Shoes,, and so we came up with the idea for The Bad Buy Book!

We all do our best to look great in our outfits, choose the right accessories, the right makeup, the perfect shoes, and wait for the best light to shoot the most flattering outfit photos. And now we are asking you to show us the items you don’t feel your very best in. You know, those ,,Sitting Shoes,, that dress that is actually not quite your color, the skirt that is a size too small but the saleswoman said it looked amazing. We all own those items!  And while they may look fabulous, they don’t always feel fabulous! So we want you to show us your bad buys and tell us the story about them! What made you purchase the item?  And why do you dislike it now?  And why not share them with us?  We buy these things for a reason then hide them in the back of the closet.  Now it’s their turn to share the limelight.

Every month on the 15th, we will both publish a post sharing the photos you have sent us along with a few sentences about the bad buy. Photo submissions will be due by the 1 st of each month so we have time to edit and compile all of the entries. At the end of each post we will let you know the theme for the next month’s post. Photos and the story of your ”Bad Buy” can be emailed to or Please put”Bad Buy” in the subject line.

So let’s take a look at our Bad Buy Bags!

First, as always, my lovely co-host Shelbee of Shelbee on the EdgeThe Bad Buy Book: Bags

I really wanted a small red cross body bag and picked this one up on sale at Target.  It’s not a bad bag really.  The size and style are exactly what I wanted, but the red is almost too orange and doesn’t match any of the reds in my closet.  It looks great if I have no other red in the outfit that I am pairing it with.  But if I am shooting for red, this bag was a big fail!

And of course Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Stylethe bad buy book: bags

Hi guys

I’m sending in another photo of my step mom, Nancy (the 60+ model on my blog) for your bad buys for bags!

Nancy wanted a blush purse and so picked this up at DSW. However, when she got home, she realized it was hard to fit all of her stuff in it, and then close the top over it. At least it was around her birthday, so I knew what to buy her!! And then she returned this one!

And my Bad Buy Bag.The Bad Buy Book: bagsThe Bad Buy Book: Bagsdata:text/mce-internal,content,%3Cimg%20class%3D%22aligncenter%20size-medium%20wp-image-7168%22%20src%3D%22https%3A//, it needs a bit of explaining. I always have to carry my oxygen concentrator with me and the first photo is with the bag that belongs to it. I don’t like that bag and it has no pockets, so where do I have to put my phone, lipstick and keys? So Gerben has adjusted two bags so that I can put my device in a nicer bag. It’s not really a bad buy, more a must buy.

I hope you all enjoyed reading our post and we hope you will join us next month with: Wintercoats!

Thanks dear Shelbee! Have a fabulous weekend!

I think bags aren’t as hard as many of the other categories, yet I still had something to contribute—of course!! Ha ha!!

    • December 15, 2017 / 9:36 am

Haha, well dear Jodie, pull out your bad buy wintercoat for Januari….and then we change things a bit!!!!

  2. December 15, 2017 / 1:12 am

Perhaps we should all have a bag swap!! Have a great weekend xx

    • December 15, 2017 / 9:37 am

Yes lets do that! I want to swap with someone who doesn t like her Birkin bag anymore!

  3. December 15, 2017 / 10:59 am

Nancy I think there’s an idea for you and Gerben – you need to make some customized, stylish bags for women in the same situation as you. Women who are young and stylish yet need to carry a bag for their concentrator or other device. I’ll bet you would make a lot of women very happy!
BTW, I LOVE your striped skirt and tee, it’s adorable!

    • December 15, 2017 / 1:36 pm

Haha, thank you! That would be a great idea but….there are a lot of difference devices and they all have the ventilation holes on different places. Thank you for thinking along!

  4. December 15, 2017 / 12:26 pm

I really like your red bag Nancy, but I get what you say, tones can work against each other sometimes. Have a super weekend Hun. x Jacqui

    • December 15, 2017 / 1:41 pm

Thanks Jacqui! Have a great weekend!

  5. December 15, 2017 / 1:12 pm

Not being able to fit my stuff in a purse is the worst! That is always a must for me. I saw your e-mail about the link-up today and thought “I get to meet her in-person in just a few weeks!” I’m super excited!

    • December 15, 2017 / 1:44 pm

Me too! Isn t it fantastic!

    • December 15, 2017 / 2:33 pm

Thanks Katherine! Have a great weekend!

    • December 15, 2017 / 10:19 pm

      ThanksGemma! Have a good weekend!

  6. December 15, 2017 / 3:00 pm

Love this post. This such a great idea and I definitely have items in the closet that reminds me of what was I thinking! Ha! I like the shape of Shelbee’s red bag but I can see why the color would be hard to wear. It is such a strong color on its own. I can relate mostly to Jodie’s bag as I love small handbags. I don’t carry a lot of things just bare minimum but if bag still doesn’t close well that’s a problem! Love the blush color though on her bag. Nancy your bag is definitely a must buy. Gorgeous black bag!

    • December 15, 2017 / 10:20 pm

Thank you for your lovely comment dear! Have a great weekend!

  7. December 15, 2017 / 3:09 pm

Bags and shoes are two items that you can never be sure of until you buy them and use them. Shoes especially are tricky. I can try them on in the store and walk around in them, and they seem comfortable. But it’s only after I had them on all day, do I know if they are comfortable or not. And then you can’t return them.

    • December 15, 2017 / 10:22 pm

Ha ha ha, I know the feeling Amy! It’s awful, in the store I think, yes they are pretty comfortable. But wait until you have to walk on them!

  8. December 15, 2017 / 4:08 pm

These are always fun to read! Thank you for sharing and hosting, Nancy. 🙂

    • December 15, 2017 / 10:22 pm

      Thanks for reading Chrissy!

  9. December 15, 2017 / 4:53 pm

I always love these posts, they’re so fun! I actually like all of the bags!

    • December 15, 2017 / 10:23 pm

Ha ha, thank you! Have a good weekend!

  10. December 15, 2017 / 7:05 pm

Ha ha I love this bad buy creative…Oh dont ya know we all have done this so many times..I have some of course…! as much as I hate to admit it! I will try to join in for Jan, but getting pics always seems to be a challenge for me with me..wrong lenses for camera an d working full time make it challenging!

Have a very lovely holiday Nancy!

    • December 15, 2017 / 10:25 pm

I hope you can join us in January! Thank you and enjoy your weekend!

  11. December 15, 2017 / 7:05 pm

Nancy you are funny. I love that you choose another bag for your concentrator. Gerben did a good job 😉

    • December 15, 2017 / 10:25 pm

I will tell him! Thank you Tina!

  12. December 15, 2017 / 7:27 pm

      Thanks Berty!

  13. December 15, 2017 / 10:01 pm

I really like all of these bags, especially Shelbee’s red crossbody, but then I do love handbags…my husband says I have far too many! Two arrived in the post today…naughty me 😉

    • December 15, 2017 / 10:28 pm

Ha ha , didn’t he say: are you gonna open a bag store? That’s what Gerben says when again shoes or boots arrive! ( he says a shie store then of course)

      • December 21, 2017 / 1:06 am

Yes every time, as well as “where are you going to put that then?” You can imagine what my reply to that question is 😉

        • December 21, 2017 / 3:50 pm

HAhaha, men are all the same!no….that is not true!!

  14. December 16, 2017 / 12:02 am

Most people have the issue of buying bags that are too small…I’m always having to size down my bags because of my illness.

    Have a great weekend!

    • December 16, 2017 / 9:17 am

Didn t know you had one Suzanne! May I ask what you have?

  15. December 16, 2017 / 6:24 am

It’s so true that we ALL occasionally bring home a piece that – for whatever reason – didn’t work out as we’d hoped, dearest Nancy. I’ll sometimes spend a half hour in the change room analyzing a potential purchase…and I still don’t always get it right!! I do think it’s awesome that your hubby managed to turn what is literally a “must-have” bag into something more useful and stylish for you, though…that’s called “making lemonade out of lemons”!! Enjoy your weekend…and the final countdown to Christmas (woohoo)!! XOXO

    • December 16, 2017 / 9:18 am

Haha, that lemon thing I have to remember! Enjoy your weekend love!

  16. December 16, 2017 / 6:48 am

It’s so fun to read your bad buys and why you think they are bad buys!

    • December 16, 2017 / 9:18 am

      Thanks Laura!

  19. December 16, 2017 / 6:54 pm

I just loved reading this post and I had to agree with a lot of it. Reds can be SO hard… even burgundy shades can vary sometimes! And, I have def. purchased a bag that was too small before and that I couldn’t close!

    • December 17, 2017 / 9:43 pm

Yes, bags can be tricky. They can look fantastic on the outside, But they can suck when we use them.

  20. December 17, 2017 / 1:00 am

I have had a quite a few bad bag buys, they always end up at a yard sale. One was because it smelled too much like plastic. I had to get rid of it. Or the bag was supposed to be red and like the red bag in this post it was more orange. Well my bag is Halloween orange. hahahha. Thank you so much for the feature!!!!!!!

    • December 17, 2017 / 9:45 pm

Your welcome dear! That was such a lovely photo!

    • December 17, 2017 / 9:45 pm

      Thank you.

  21. December 17, 2017 / 3:36 am

Yes, i have also bought little bags that I love,, but can wear only once in a white because they are too small. I do like the red bag, but see it is a very specific shade.
Love the striped skit and poodle tee.
Hope you are enjoying this weekend!
    xoxo, Elle

    • December 17, 2017 / 9:46 pm

      Thank you Elle!

  22. December 17, 2017 / 6:36 pm

I have a few bags too that I can’t fit my stuff in, so they’re a bit pointless really! Such a shame, I wish I was one of those people that only needs a teeny bag, but I need one of Mary Poppins proportions!!

    • December 17, 2017 / 9:47 pm

Ha ha, why? We only need a creditcard and our drivers license, and a lipstick!

    • December 17, 2017 / 9:48 pm

      Thank you!

    • December 17, 2017 / 9:48 pm

      Thank you!

    • December 18, 2017 / 12:43 pm

      Thank you!

  23. December 18, 2017 / 2:52 pm

Haha! what a fun post! I think a bad bag is one that won’t hold my stuff! Do love your casual/cool outfit, xox

    • December 18, 2017 / 4:56 pm

      Thank you very much Patti!
