Taking care of your hair can often feel like a thankless task. You try so hard. You use many lotions and potions, but nothing ever seems to work. Above all else, this is frustrating, and you feel like it’s even worth all the effort. In a way, it is, but only if you know what you’re doing. The problem that many women encounter is that they don’t know how to treat their hair. They spend years looking for the right shampoo, oil, conditioner, or other products, but nothing seems to stick. Been there, done that. If you want to transform your look and style, here are six tips to help you find the right hair products.
6 Tips to find the right hair products
You won’t get very far without knowing what hair you have, as this directly affects how you treat it and which products to use. Whether wavy, curly, or straight, there is a variety of products designed specifically for you. However, you may have preferred to use generic hair products that are (supposedly) suitable for all types. While these products may be effective for general hair care, they aren’t designed to make substantial improvements.
You can inspect your hair yourself or ask your hairdresser to determine your hair type for you. They should point you in the right direction and may even have product recommendations.
Look At Your Scalp
Your hair is not just the strands. It is also your scalp. Some hair products are effective but only if your scalp can handle them. Too much oil or not enough oil on your scalp can cause problems and make it difficult to attain (and maintain) the luscious locks you’ve always wanted.
You can improve your scalp by knowing how often you should wash your hair. For a normal or dry scalp, you don’t want to use shampoo and conditioner every day, as this can strip the natural oils away. However, oily scalps require more care, so wash your hair at least four times a week.
Understand Your Issues
You will struggle to achieve the hair you crave without knowing the key issues. Understanding what is wrong with your hair currently means you can take the right steps toward solving the problem. If your hair struggles to handle styling products such as straighteners or curling irons, the best heat protectant products can provide a crucial barrier.
This is just one issue you might encounter, but there are a variety of possibilities you can attempt that will help your hair become more manageable. If you know these issues already, speak to your stylist, but if you aren’t sure what the problem is, they may be able to offer advice.
Work Out Your Hair Goals
It will be easier for you to achieve your desires if you work out what you want from your hair products, as this allows you to focus on specific treatments or products that will help you reach your goals.
If you approach your hair care too haphazardly, there’s a risk you will use products that do not complement each other or you may find that you’re using the wrong product for your needs. Take some time to establish your hair goals and do some research so you know the right approach and may even have the chance to outline a plan.
Consider How Much Time You Have
The art of mastering a daily hair routine takes time and it’s tricky to maintain if you are always rushing around at home or work. However, this routine is vital for making the effective changes you need from your hair products and routine.
While you may not be able to do everything at once, you can carve out small pockets during the day to help you keep on top of your hair routine. Try to fill your spare time, such as while you’re watching TV, with some treatment to encourage better growth or fullness that will transform your hairstyle.
Get Recommendations
You may also benefit from seeking recommendations, especially if you’ve never taken great care of your hair before. Speak to friends and family who have similar hair to you and see what they do to maintain their beautiful locks.
However, remember that everyone is different, so these methods are not always guaranteed to work. Still, they can give you vital information and experience in taking better care of your hair.
The Right Stuff
Finding the right hair products will make a substantial difference to your style and self-esteem. If you have struggled to pick out the perfect products so far, these tips should help you make the change you need to guarantee happiness and better hair that you can rely on for all occasions. And now I’m gonna practice what I preach!
I used to spend a fortune on hair products, until I got some proper advice from my hairdresser. I’m now buying both shampoo and conditioner from the salon. They might be a bit more expensive but last for ages, and they are all I need really. xxx

But it is a long road to get there!
I agree to all of these! I’ve been trying to just wash my hair every other day, which is something I never thought I’d be able to do. But, with the right product (or should we say dry shampoo!), it isn’t too hard!

Yes indeed. That’s the root of beautiful hair!
It’s funny because I always think I’ll spend whatever time it takes to have beautiful hair, but when it comes to reality, I want fast, fast, fast. Yet I’ll spend the time on other things. Sometimes I make no sense, haha.

Me too! I could not be bothered with styling my hair, but when I do it just looks the same, lol.
I try to keep it simple and don’t wash my hair that often to keep the color and not dry it out.

Me too, once a week if possible!
I’m very bad at using hair products, I hardly ever bother, except for conditioner and a heat protecting spray! I have some hair masks but they take too long and I don’t like the idea of sleeping in them. Good tips Nancy, my hair is not in great condition so I need to “up my game”. Thanks for linking!

Thanks Gail. I don’t use any styling products and every time I am thinking I should!
I have a love hate relationship with my hair Nancy, I love it, but wish it was long and curly. It’s perfect when I wash and style it, but once slept on its all over the place! Thanks for sharing Nancy. Jacqui xx
