A sheer blouse and black tulle skirt outfit for Ada

Because Ada gave a party for her first linkup birthday, we had to wear of course a festive outfit! And what could be more festive as a black tulle skirt? Festive, cheerful, feminine, a tulle skirt has it all.

I was actually planning on taking just one picture for Ada. But I liked the outfit so much that I decided to make more for my own blog too. First I thought of wearing red with the black tulle skirt, but I don’t like black and red together that much. And then I realized I wanted to wear a few corsages, that is festive. And the blouse with the gold hearts is too!

I wore the skirt before here and here. Even if a black tulle skirt does look a bit festive, you can wear it very well in a more casual way. I wore it often last season with a sweater and casual boots with a flat heel. The boots with gold stud bow are older. These boots are, I think, the only item I have ever bought on sale were I am happy with. I never find anything special on sale. Yesterday I saw on Instagram someone who bought a wrap blouse by Diane von Fürstenberg! Wow, unbelievable! That will never happen to me. By the way, speaking of Instagram: if you are not following me yet, please do so here!

Leather skirt outfit for a winter day

Have you already congretulated Ada on her first linkup anniversary? She would love it if you do!

Leather is always nice and warm, so it’s ideal to wear leather pants or skirts as an outfit for a winter day. Especially when it is cold as it was here last week. I hate winter, happily the snow is gone now and it’s getting a bit warmer. I am, like many others, all done with winter. I want sun, outdoor dining, bare legs and especially not wear layers! I mean, blouses under sweaters, cardigans over everything, I’ve had enough of it. I hope you havn’t had enough of it yet because I have for you another outfit for a winter day!

Cable sweaters

I used to love them a lot. As a child my grandmother always knitted them for me. Later, in puberty, I loved them in black and oversized for a ,,I don’t care,, look. I bought this one last year, it was the first cable sweater in a long time. And I found it not as much fun as I used to. A little borring or something like that. So I wore a transparent checkered blouse under it on a wider leather skirt. The strapped belt did something more for the outfit. I finally found some fishnet tights as they were hard to find here. Of course I wear other tights underneath them! And some suède wedges. This is not an outfit that is really my style, but I think it’s a nice outfit for when you want to be warmly dressed and still look a bit stylish. A perfect outfit for a winter day!

Now, do not forget to send us  your picture of your,,sitting shoes,, for the The Bad Buy Book series! You have the time until the 1st of March! What? You don’t know what I mean? Go shame yourself! Lol. Read all about it here.

Would you wear a print on a floral skirt?

No, not me of course! I’m not there yet! But would you? I have seen a lot of you mixing prints and styles together and it’s often amazing. I did it in my blogging life once here and I thought it looked very well. In fact, I have worn this many times on other skirts. But let’s take this skirt for eample. I personally feel that if you wear a top in a color that reflects also in the skirt, then it enchances the colors and the print of the skirt. Well I must say that I very much love order. All in one convenient place, all clear, tidy. You know what I mean? So to wear any other color that is not in the skirt, or to add a print feels messy. Okay, are there already some of you who think: she’s not in her right mind! Probably. I found here a nice explanation of how to mix prints. Now I think to myself, okay, maybe a striped sweater? Here are a few ideas of mixing prints.

But I really want to hear from you what you think I should wear on this skirt. Because I have quite a bit of these skirts, and I am really fond of them, but I also think it should be more exciting. I show you another time what I have done with your tips and how I wear the skirt now.

How did I wear my floral skirt.

Well, plain, borring! This is an outfit that I wear often, or something simular, as we go for a walk. Going for a walk means for us that Gerben is walking and I am in the wheelchair. And do you know what is really ridiculous? I don’t want to look stylish while sitting in the weelchair. It feels to me like it’s not appropriate or something like that. I hate it because I want to look stylish! I’m afraid I have to work on that. But well, walking and don’t want to look stylish…I said years ago, when I have to be in a wheelchair I can finally wear high heels again because I then don’t have to walk anyway. Yeah, see what I am wearing!

I love these wide floral scuba midi skirts. I love the colors and the print and scuba is wonderful. It’s so light and it doesn’t wrinkle. I wear a warm sweater, because it was freezing here, with ruffled sleeves and boots with a flat heel. So these are boots that I wear when I do my groceries and it’s raining or there is snow or something like that. And when I am in the weelchair. I wear an elastic belt with tulle flowers on it. In itself, if you think the boots away, ther is nothing wrong with the outfit, but just as I said, it can be more exciting. Of course with an heeled ankle boot, or wedges, but let me know what you think I should wear on a skirt like this!

Have a great week everybody!

My very first plaid pants!

For years ago I wore plaid much more. I had a plaid pencilskirt, plaid bodycon dresses, plaid trenchcoat etc. But I can’t remember I have ever worn plaid pants. I am really fond of plaid, I like a classic style. By the way, I don’t know wether you name it plaid or checkered, I really don’t know the difference but I like to call it plaid. These pants I bought recently when Gerben and I actually went into the city to buy new sneakers for the both of us. To use in the gym…..not for a sporty look! When we had bought them Gerben said: don’t you want to shop over at h&m? Well, you don’t have to tell me that twice! Bye bye Gerben, see you in an hour!

I love above the ankles trousers, 7/8 lenght. I have skinny legs and with a long upper body long pants make me so drawling. I only have above the ankle pants. I saw this one straight away and knew it was meant for me. I hardly wear pants , but the past season I have bought several, this one and this one. The top was very cheap so I bought the same one in green too. Come on, you all say that green is thè color for 2017, so what could I do? And then I saw the bomber jacket! Isn’t it just a great jacket! I love it, and I know I will be wearing it a lot. Over dresses, but also as a spring/summer outdoor jacket. They had it in all colors. You really should check it, link is under the post. I also still love my patent leather Chelsea boots. They are so easy to walk on, for shopping or doing your groceries. When I would go out for lunch or something like that, I would wear ankle boots with a small heel. I love this bracelet with snakeprint. It is very old, it is a bit to tight now because I bought it when I was much thinner. Because it is still very cold here, I wear a basic shirt under the top. But I love to wear it with a lace camisole.

About the Styled by………series.

Last week you could admire Nicole’s style story on the blog. Every first Tuesday of the month someone tells her or his style story and what it says about their personality or how it evolved. But I am looking for more of your stories! So come on, write a lovely story, add some great pictures and I will let you shine! If you are Dutch and rather write in Dutch, no problem, I will translate it! So read the Styled by….page in the menu and see how it all works, and if there are any questions just contact me!outfit in plaid pantschelsea s and plaid pantsburgundy and plaid pantsbomber with plaid pantsgrey bomber and plaid pantssnakeprint bracelet and plaid pantsfashion plaid pantsme in plaid pants

Welcome to The Bad Buy Book!

Hi, we are Shelbee from Shelbee On the Edge and Nancy from Nancy’s Fashion Style and this is the start of a new collaboration called The Bad Buy Book!  Together, we have initiated a monthly series where we share photos of our worst fashion purchases.  And we invite you, the readers, to submit photos of your worst purchases. What! we hear you think. Yes, your worst purchase! Why would we do that?

We all do our best to look great in our outfits, choose the right accessories, the right makeup, the perfect shoes, and wait for the best light to shoot the most flattering outfit photos. And now we are asking you to show us the items you don’t feel your very best in. You know, those ,,sitting boots,, that dress that is actually not quite your color, the skirt that is a size too small but the saleswoman said it looked amazing. We all own those items!  And while they may look fabulous, they don’t always feel fabulous! So we want you to show us your bad buys and tell us the story about them!  What made you purchase the item?  And why do you dislike it now?  And why not?  We buy these things for a reason then hide them in the back of the closet.  Now it’s their turn to share the limelight.

Every month on the 15th, we will both publish a post sharing the photos you have sent to us along with their stories.  Photo submissions will be due by the 1st of each month so we have time to edit and compile all of the entries.  At the end of each post we will let you know the theme for the next month’s post. Photos and the story of your “Bad Buy” can be emailed to or  Please put “Bad Buy” in the subject line.

The theme for our first Bad Buy collection will be ”Sitting Shoes”!  You know those shoes that are absolutely adorable, complete stunners, to die for, the had to have them shoes.  The ones that were so perfect in the store but turned out to be the most uncomfortable, intolerable shoes ever.  Those are the shoes that Nancy and I like to call “Sitting Shoes.”  Please submit photos of your sitting shoes by March 1 to be featured in our next post.

To get the ball rolling, Shelbee and I share our ”Sitting Shoes”!

The Bad Buy Book

These open toe booties really caught my eye in the store with their adorable lace up detail and soft shade of taupe.  I walked a lap around the store and they fit perfectly.  So I bought them.  Only to discover that they are horrifically uncomfortable.  After about 15 minutes in them, the back was rubbing my ankle raw, the front was cutting open my big toe, the heel is much to high, and there is no support in the foot bed at all.  I could barely tolerate them long enough to take outfit photos and almost twisted my ankle about 5 different times walking on the soft grass.  These shoes are most definitely sitting shoes! But they sure are cute!GRAY SHIRT DRESS & LINKUP

I was so in love with these boots, I can be totally enchanted by a pair of shoes or boots. When they were delivered, I immediatly put them on. I thought, what a fabulous color, what a beautiful lenght, and they fitted perfectly. And then I walked…….it was horrible. I can’t walk normal on these. What a shame!

We are looking forward to seeing your Sitting Shoes and other Bad Buys!

Fashion and Beauty Trends in 2017!

Claire writes today about the emerging fashion and beauty trends in 2017.

5 Groundbreaking Fashion and Beauty Trends in 2017

The year behind us left a major challenge for the year 2017 when it comes to versatility of the trends. We saw comebacks of many trends in 2016 – chokers from the ‘90s, customized denim jackets from the ‘80s, and so on. Furthermore, last year brought velvet, extra-long sleeves, and statement furs, but 2017 surprised us at the very beginning of the year. Turns out, the year ahead of us might be even more groundbreaking for the fashion and beauty world, so here are some of the most extraordinary trends 2017 has brought so far.

Greenery is the new blackfashion and beauty trends in 2017

Traditionally, Pantone’s team announced their pick of the colour for the next year but, unlike last year’s versatile shades Rose Quartz and Serenity, this year’s winner, Greenery, brought confusion to the fashion world. This grass-green shade is not something we’re used to seeing on runway shows or in our closets but it seems like Greenery will find its way to our hearts nevertheless. After all, it’s the colour of precious gemstones, such as peridot, emerald, and tourmaline, so it’s not hard to implement it into accessories. Statement green coats, skirts, and pants are also a fashion yes, so let’s just wait and see how vivid the outfits of 2017 will be.

Gopnik stylefashion and beauty trends in 2017

Another subculture has found its way to fashion runway shows – gopnik style, inspired by grungy post-Soviet street fashion. One designer, in particular, popularised the trend – Gosha Rubchinskiy. Moscow-born fashion designer brought Russian youth culture to the fashion scene and it’s threating to become one of the most groundbreaking trends for the year ahead of us. Reinventing men’s fashion, Gosha Rubchinskiy is contributing to another fashion trend arising – the so-called workleisure – activewear you can actually wear at the office. It’s all about being stylish yet comfy, so don’t be surprised if this trend stays for a while.

Minimal satin dressesfashion and beauty trends in 2017

Satin dresses have been trending for the past few seasons, but it seems like the trend isn’t going away anytime soon. As a matter of fact, 2017 will be the year of the minimal ones that will now cover only the necessary parts. Go on a shopping spree, or find lovely satin dresses online – the choice is all yours, as long as you keep it minimal. As for the colours, neutral shades of ivory, beige, and grey are still dominating, so this is going to be among the most versatile pieces in 2017.

Highlighting your best featuresfashion and beauty trends in 2017

While contouring dominated the beauty scene for the last few years, a new, far simpler makeup technique appeared in 2016 and quickly dethroned all other popular techniques. Strobing is a makeup technique that relies on highlighting products in order to enhance your best features. It’s done by applying highlighter on the areas of your face where the light would naturally hit – cheekbones, brow bones, the cupid’s bow, and chin. It’s faster and simpler than contouring, not to mention how natural it looks, and that’s why strobing is the groundbreaking beauty trend for the future.

Growing-out shagfashion and beauty trends in 2017

A haircut characterised by messy layers is not a new thing in the hairstyling world – a shag haircut has been around ever since the ‘70s. Seems like everyone was wearing it in 2016 and if you were among those fashionistas, we have good news for you – a growing-out shag is going to be huge in 2017 meaning you don’t need to change your haircut, just let it grow for a while. Let your bangs grow enough to be split down the middle and you’ll be as trendy as Mandy Moore was at Emmys red carpet.

As you can see, fashion and beauty trends are getting bolder year by year and those are fantastic news for fashionistas since now you can express your unique style without the fear of being ridiculed. So, what are you waiting for? Go out and play!
