Styled by……….

Styled by…..tells the story behind someones style. What does a person tell by the way she or he is dressed?  What does it say about their personality? When did they began to create their own style? The series is published every first Tuesday of the month.

Do you also have a story to tell, and do you also have beautiful pictures of your style evolution? I, and many of my readers, want to read your story! I would love it if you can join the fun too! You can find all the info in the Styled by… or contact me via email.

Let’s quickly see who has a great story this month!

This month tells Marloes about her style!

Styled by…..Marloes!

Ever since I can remember I’ve enjoyed chosing my own outfits. Even for my first communion I picked a different outfit from the one my parents chose, I was the only girl wearing a jeans skirt and a bright yellow sweater. I never minded what everyone else was wearing and always chose my own path.Styled by.........Marloes
In high school I changed styles as quickly as changing my underwear: every day I would wear a different style. The only requirement I had for my clothes was that they were unique, or at least the combination was unique. After a while I identified as an “alternative”, only dressing in oversized jeans and black tops. However, when I went to college I decided it was time for a new me, so I reinvented my style and decided to only wear dresses and high heels. I know right!Styled by.........Marloes

Now after having two kids and starting my “grown-up” life I think I finally found my true style. I think my style is best described as Scandinavian Chic, I love simple and elegant pieces that can be easily combined amongst each other. I like – no love!- stripes in any form or colour and anything femine with a bit of an edge (yes, I still have a bit of that little girl inside of me 😉 ).Styled by..........Marloes
Where my younger self wanted to have as many clothes and shoes as possible, I now see the value of investment pieces. I rather have clothes that will last and flatter my figure, that are going to be true favourites, than have a closet full of clothes that I kind of like but don’t absolutely love. Styled by......MarloesThis of course doesn’t mean I have an empty closet, as I still have a lot of my clothes that I bought earlier, but I am more picky in the new items I buy. I still like unique items, but I try not to buy something just because it’s trendy. When I buy something, it needs to feel like me. And something is me, when it’s comfortable, classy and a littly sassy!Styled by.........Marloes

Thank you very much Marloes! You are such a beautiful woman! You can read more about Marloes at her blog Mooier Leven.

Now don’t forget to write and submit your story as I can use some new entries!

Have a great week everyone!

This month tells Andrea about her style!

Styled by…..Andrea!

Since I started blogging about style, I’ve been asked several times to describe my style and the phrase that always pops in my head is “casual but put-together.” Styled byI live and work in a very casual place, and I think my style is best described as “classic casual.” While my style is casual, I’m attempting to be put-together and always add a few fun elements to keep my outfits from being boring. Accessories are at the forefront of my style. Many of the clothes in my closet are many years old, but new accessories add new life to old basics. Styled byI started my scarf collection thirty years ago, and many of my scarves are 15+ years old. I also love statement necklaces. Sadly, I can’t wear most earrings, as I’m allergic to almost all metals, so I always wear the same pair I know I can tolerate. But I actually think a statement scarf or a statement necklace, an interesting purse and fun shoes are enough to create an interesting outfit around basic pieces. Styled byOne of my signature looks is leggings and a tunic. I love how comfortable leggings are, and there are so many pretty and interesting tunics out there, which allow me to express myself. I also enjoy wearing dresses with leggings. Styled by.....By adding a few statement pieces to my basic wardrobe, such as a long floral dress, embroidered jeans and faux leather leggings, I keep my wardrobe from being too basic and boring. At least that’s what I hope! Styled byLooking back twenty years or so, I don’t think my style has changed all that much. It’ll be interesting to see how my style will evolve as I’m getting older and better!

Thanks for letting me share some thoughts about my style, Nancy!

Oh, it’s my pleasure dear Andrea! Andrea is one of the first bloggers who start following me and is always very supportive. I am grateful for that!

We all have a striped skirt…..havn’t we?

Why do we love a striped skirt so much as soon as the temperature starts to rise? And not only skirts, sweaters, tee’s and shoes too! I don’t need to tell you where the striped look came from, but for those who want to read about it I have a link here. I think striped skirts and sweaters generate a feeling of holidays somehow. Water, sailing, sun, France. So I thought I would reinforce that feeling by wearing ice cream! Haha, not literally of course. How much fun is this sweater!

Striped pencil skirt in spring!

With such beautiful weather like today it’s so nice to go with bare leggs. Still a bit fresh but to not wear tights anymore is such a liberty! I have this striped skirt for a long time, and I also worn it a lot. I wore it like this here all the time. I think I will be wearing it again a lot because it is so easy to wear and….I bought a new striped tee that would be great on this skirt. The striped tee I bought for this skirt! I asked you what you would wear on this skirt exept for something plane black. Most of you said: stripes! Okay, then I will wear stripes! But that’s for another moment. I am wearing my turquoise necklace as a bracelet. I always buy these whenever I am in Brighton, on the boulevard. Everytime another color. Just a nice remember of my beloved Brittain. I think I will be buying a red or a pink one soon! Yeah! A dark blue ring and to add a pop of color, a pink belt. For some reason I only wear my brown fringed sandals or these espadrilles with this striped skirt.

Fashion over 50 is fantastic!

And why is fashion over 50 so great? Well in my case because the older I get the more confidant I am. As a girl and a young woman I was pretty uncertain. Many people confused it with arrogance. Such a pitty. But the more confidence I get, the more I wear what I want. No, I have to say that in a different way. I always have worn what I wanted but now I feel more confidant in the clothes I wear. Such a shame that I had to wait until this age to get there!

This skirt helped me to find a new dress!

Just like these shoes I felt immediately in love with this skirt when I saw it on Instagram. The print is fantastic, the colors modest yet colorful and it has bags. I think that looks great on skirts like this one. And the lenght is just right for fashion over 50(on me that is). When I checked the site where I bought this skirt, I saw that this brand has got amazing dresses too! And I had been looking for a dress for our party. Gerben and I are 25 years together this year( we are not married) and in June we celebrate that with family and friends. And I ,,needed,, a dress for that occasion of cours. The dress will not be worn before the party, even not for you guys so you all have to wait a while! I have already told you that the store where I bought most of my clothes, and where I worked, has changed the concept. I can’t find any nice dresses or skirts there anymore. Such a shame. On the other hand, it aint a bad thing to explore other brands.

What I wear with this skirt.

I know, print mixing is it! But I do not intend to cover the fine print of this skirt with other prints. So I keep it calm with a lace top and a leather bolero. Btw, my dear blogging friend Shelbee wore this print on a beautiful blue dress last week. How Do I Define My Style?

I’m honored today to be guest posting for the “Styled By” series offered by Nancy of nancysfashionstyle blog. When I received the word about her series, which focuses on women’s unique styles of dressing, I just knew I had to join in! Many thanks for her kindness in allowing me!

I think if I were to choose one word that defines my sense of style, the word would be “eclectic.”  I enjoy wearing all types of clothing from blue jeans and leggings to skirts and dresses to formal gowns. I enjoy deriving my style from a broad range of sources.

My sense of style began early in life when as a three year old, I would clomp about the house wearing my mother’s high heeled shoes. I loved playing dress up!

In my twenties and thirties, my style was much more formal with business like dresses and suits. Although I still enjoy this look and occasionally still wear this style, my tastes have changed somewhat as I have aged.

I can now be seen sporting flowing scarf tops with brighter colors that reflect a more confident personality as I enjoy being a festive fifty something.

As an eclectic dresser, I enjoy comfortable clothing, colors that I love and feel beautiful wearing….

And adding a great pair of shoes and a little bling never hurts! Even in my eclectic style I am truly a “little bit of this and that!”

Until Next Time,

Debbie of
