BUTTON DOWN SKIRT,VELVET & FANCY FRIDAY LINKUP

Me and my button down skirt.

I can remember that as a child I also had a button down skirt. A yellow/brown one! Yes I was a child in the 70’s. I did search for a picture of me in that skirt but I have very few pictures of myself…..that is until I started my blog eh, I’m now catching up! So now a button down skirt always gives me a bit of a boho feel. And what fits then better then something velvet. I bought this skirt last year and I was told by the saleswoman, who was a former colleague of mine, to size down because the skirt would losen up one size. I thought it wouldn’t because I could feel that. But you don’t want to be stubborn……but now it is still to small!

Wearing a cardigan just for the color.

This cardigan I only bought because of the color. I had a lot of outfits wherein I wanted to add something brown. And I have never found a nice brown sweater. This is a very cheap cardigan, it’s not fitted, it’s not exiting, it’s actually three times nothing. But….I wear it purely for the color. I have done it before here. And so I wear the velvet camisole over the cardigan so there is still some brown to see what fits well with the boots. These wooden bracelets perfectly match the outfit. And I added a brooche to complete the whole. Thanks to Jodie and Jess I am now quite addicted to brooches!

Note: I stopped to feature my favorite of the week. I told you I would pick my favorite when I reached 100 linkups per week. Last week I had 74! I don’t mind the extra work, I like it actually but I need a little support from you okay? I also need your support for the Styled by…. series. If nobody mails me their style story then I need to stop with that serie. Wouldn’t that be a pitty? I think so…

STYLED BY……….REMKE

Styled by……….

Styled by…..tells the story behind someones style. What does a person tell by the way she or he is dressed?  What does it say about their personality? When did they began to create their own style?

Every first Tuesday of the month you will  find a post here with someone who tells about her or his style.  Do you also have a story to tell, please contact me via email.

This month tells Remke about her style!

Styled by…..Remke!

When Nancy asked me whether I was willing to write a blogpost on her website for the column “Styled by…” I was a little reluctant to accept, because I wasn’t sure: did I already have a clothing style of my own? Wasn’t it just a year ago that one day I decided to put all my men’s clothes in bags and have these donated to charity? I had, of course, already some women’s clothing hanging in my closet, because in the Netherlands we have this saying: do not throw away your old shoes before you buy new ones. But to say that I immediately had a vision on what would be my clothing style? Not really. That style still had to be developed.

In the months that followed, I slowly extended my ladies wardrobe (and sometimes not that slow). That track was obviously accompanied by trial and error, in other words, with some bad buys. But by doing so I gradually discovered what I liked, what I didn’t like, what is me and what isn’t me, and what colors suit me and what colors definitely do not suit me.Styled by........

Because you know, sometimes something can look nice on the hanger, but that does not mean that it also looks nice on me. For instance I like dresses a lot, but the shape of my male body often throws spanner in the works: I’m tall, slender, angular, broad-shouldered for a woman and unfortunately I miss waist. My body shape is best described as straight and then dresses look like bags without a shape. I realize though that everybody criticizes her or his own figure. Nevertheless I was able to buy a couple of dresses, which I think look nice on me. Styled by.........Styled by.........

Styled by.........

I also love to wear skirts: pencil skirts, short skirts, midi-skirts, A-line skirts, etc. I guess that this has something to do with the fact that wearing skirts and dresses for a “man” is not really done 😉 and that now I am trying to regain the time I have lost in the past years.Styled by.........Styled by.........Styled by.........

To further refine my clothing style I looked a lot at what other women were wearing and how they were combining, both in color and in terms of pieces of clothing. I learned a lot from just observing. And gradually my own clothing style emerged, which I would describe as feminine, smooth and casual.Styled by........Styled by.........And occasionally as neatly dressed, if circumstances require that.Styled by......... I want to make sure though that I do not dress like a teenager: I don’t want to get nominated for the tv program “Hotter than my daughter”. By the way, I have a 19 year old daughter, so I do have a good reference point. On the other hand, I will not hesitate to buy something I really like to wear and I think it is compatible to who I am and who I stand for. As an example, I got myself a very nice summery, short nail vest; you can see a little part of my belly, that’s true. There were people telling me that I am too old for something like that. Obviously I don’t agree.Styled by.........Is my style finished? No, of course not. Style is never finished and will aways evolve, parallel to the development of the person. I do know that there is still a bit of Remco inside of me and that my womanhood has not yet reached maturity. These changes will no doubt be visible in my clothing style. And last but not least, it’s inevitable that aging will have an impact on my choice of clothing and the style of my clothing and you know, that is fine. My motto: seize the day, despite the age you have 😉

Love, Remke

PREPPY LOOK WITH FISHNET TIGHTS & FANCY FRIDAY LINKUP

How to look preppy with fishnet tights

When I was in my adolescence fishnet tights were especially popular with punks, torn of course. In the eighties it was much worn with the secretary look, think pencilskirt and matching blazer. I’ve done both! Except for the torn part. I hadn’t worn fishnet tights for years, actually because when I wear tights it must be cold. I will stay bare legged as long as possible. And I don’t always want to wear two tights. I have done here. Normally I don’t wear tights under trousers, but I could not find fishnet knee socks. I already had a hard time finding these.

As I have said here, I love this lenght trousers. This black one I wear preferably with a tight black turtleneck sweater and ankle boots. Very simple, and in my opinion quite stylish. A few weeks ago, when we took these photos, it was so terribly cold that I wanted to wear a lot of layers. A basic shirt, this blouse and a V-neck sweater. The snakeprint bracelet is a gift to myself from Ibiza, from years ago. I love a bit edgy ness with a preppy look! I don’t often wear pants, but when I do I like it this way!

OUTFIT FOR A WINTER DAY & FANCY FRIDAY LINKUP

Leather skirt outfit for a winter day

Have you already congretulated Ada on her first linkup anniversary? She would love it if you do!

Leather is always nice and warm, so it’s ideal to wear leather pants or skirts as an outfit for a winter day. Especially when it is cold as it was here last week. I hate winter, happily the snow is gone now and it’s getting a bit warmer. I am, like many others, all done with winter. I want sun, outdoor dining, bare legs and especially not wear layers! I mean, blouses under sweaters, cardigans over everything, I’ve had enough of it. I hope you havn’t had enough of it yet because I have for you another outfit for a winter day!

Cable sweaters

I used to love them a lot. As a child my grandmother always knitted them for me. Later, in puberty, I loved them in black and oversized for a ,,I don’t care,, look. I bought this one last year, it was the first cable sweater in a long time. And I found it not as much fun as I used to. A little borring or something like that. So I wore a transparent checkered blouse under it on a wider leather skirt. The strapped belt did something more for the outfit. I finally found some fishnet tights as they were hard to find here. Of course I wear other tights underneath them! And some suède wedges. This is not an outfit that is really my style, but I think it’s a nice outfit for when you want to be warmly dressed and still look a bit stylish. A perfect outfit for a winter day!

The Bad Buy Book

Now, do not forget to send us  your picture of your,,sitting shoes,, for the The Bad Buy Book series! You have the time until the 1st of March! What? You don’t know what I mean? Go shame yourself! Lol. Read all about it here.

PLAID PANTS WITH BOMBER JACKET & FANCY FRIDAY LINKUP

My very first plaid pants!

For years ago I wore plaid much more. I had a plaid pencilskirt, plaid bodycon dresses, plaid trenchcoat etc. But I can’t remember I have ever worn plaid pants. I am really fond of plaid, I like a classic style. By the way, I don’t know wether you name it plaid or checkered, I really don’t know the difference but I like to call it plaid. These pants I bought recently when Gerben and I actually went into the city to buy new sneakers for the both of us. To use in the gym…..not for a sporty look! When we had bought them Gerben said: don’t you want to shop over at h&m? Well, you don’t have to tell me that twice! Bye bye Gerben, see you in an hour!

I love above the ankles trousers, 7/8 lenght. I have skinny legs and with a long upper body long pants make me so drawling. I only have above the ankle pants. I saw this one straight away and knew it was meant for me. I hardly wear pants , but the past season I have bought several, this one and this one. The top was very cheap so I bought the same one in green too. Come on, you all say that green is thè color for 2017, so what could I do? And then I saw the bomber jacket! Isn’t it just a great jacket! I love it, and I know I will be wearing it a lot. Over dresses, but also as a spring/summer outdoor jacket. They had it in all colors. You really should check it, link is under the post. I also still love my patent leather Chelsea boots. They are so easy to walk on, for shopping or doing your groceries. When I would go out for lunch or something like that, I would wear ankle boots with a small heel. I love this bracelet with snakeprint. It is very old, it is a bit to tight now because I bought it when I was much thinner. Because it is still very cold here, I wear a basic shirt under the top. But I love to wear it with a lace camisole.

About the Styled by………series.

Last week you could admire Nicole’s style story on the blog. Every first Tuesday of the month someone tells her or his style story and what it says about their personality or how it evolved. But I am looking for more of your stories! So come on, write a lovely story, add some great pictures and I will let you shine! If you are Dutch and rather write in Dutch, no problem, I will translate it! So read the Styled by….page in the menu and see how it all works, and if there are any questions just contact me!outfit in plaid pantschelsea s and plaid pantsburgundy and plaid pantsbomber with plaid pantsgrey bomber and plaid pantssnakeprint bracelet and plaid pantsfashion plaid pantsme in plaid pants

And I also said that when I reached 100, I would add my favorite of the week. So from now on I will. I will not only choose my favorite because of the outfit, but also because she or he has a great post written or just because……they are my favorite!

my outfit in pleated skirt with knitted sweater

I want to wear my pleated skirt every day!

Well, not really though. And I know you have seen this skirt before here and here. And I love it styled like today the best! With the pink details, gray and pink compliment each other so well. I was just browsing the internet to see whether the pleated skirt trend continues into Spring. I actually regret that I have not bought a metallic pleated skirt this season, and now it feels like to late. But if they are still trendy next season, I will buy another one. In a spring color or a beautiful print. Vogue and Elle don’t mention the pleated skirt at all and so don’t the leading designers but…….drum roll……check this one! New collection! I can totally see myself wearing this one with a red top! Super cool!

Back to today’s pleated skirt.

I love this sweater. I find the color beautiful, you have to watch out that you don’t wear a tint of gray that makes your skin looks the same color! This is a warmer shade of gray. This sweater is a bit crotched and a bit knitted, love the casual look of it. I never wear two shades of gray, but I think it works in this outfit pretty nice, also because I added a bit of pink in it. A very bright color could also work perfectly. Now that I have discovered that wearing socks in open shoes looks nice(in my eyes), I wear it very often. The pink strap has a cute bow detail and the kitschy charm bracelet looks lovely with this outfit. The suède bag with fringe and studs is old but remains trendy!

I wear the scarf and the glooves just for the pictures because they are pink and gray. The scarf I knitted last year, I wanted to find out whether I liked to do that. I never wear it, it isn’t that nice. But to knit was quite relaxing, of course I only know one stitch, the most simple one! But for someone who can relax bad, it is quite fun to do. For a while, I get bored real quickly.pink and gray scarf in pleated skirtpink peeptoes in pleated skirtgray bag in pleated skirtpink bracelet in pleated skirtpink belt in pleated skirtbow belt in pleated skirtgray pleated skirtpink peeptoes in pleated skirtknit wear in pleated skirtknitted sweater in pleated skirt
