THE BAD BUY BOOK: SKIRTS & FANCY FRIDAY LINKUP

The Bad Buy Book: skirts

Welcome to September’s edition of The Bad Buy Book! This month’s theme is: skirts!

The Bad Buy Book is a series hosted by Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge and Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style. We wanted to establish together something fun and new. We both talked about our,,Sitting Shoes,, and so we came up with the idea for The Bad Buy Book!

We all do our best to look great in our outfits, choose the right accessories, the right makeup, the perfect shoes, and wait for the best light to shoot the most flattering outfit photos. And now we are asking you to show us the items you don’t feel your very best in. You know, those ,,Sitting Shoes,, that dress that is actually not quite your color, the skirt that is a size too small but the saleswoman said it looked amazing. We all own those items!  And while they may look fabulous, they don’t always feel fabulous! So we want you to show us your bad buys and tell us the story about them! What made you purchase the item?  And why do you dislike it now?  And why not share them with us?  We buy these things for a reason then hide them in the back of the closet.  Now it’s their turn to share the limelight.

Every month on the 15 th, we will both publish a post sharing the photos you have sent us along with a few sentences about the bad buy. Photo submissions will be due by the 1 st of each month so we have time to edit and compile all of the entries. At the end of each post we will let you know the theme for the next month’s post. Photos and the story of your ”Bad Buy” can be emailed to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or nancybaten@upcmail.nl. Please put”Bad Buy” in the subject line.

So, time to take a look at our Bad Buy Skirts!

First is my dear co-host Shelbee of Shelbee on the EdgeThe Bad Buy Book: skirts“When I saw this faux leather pencil skirt, I had to have it.  Because, well, a black leather pencil skirt is completely bad ass.  But only if it fits properly.  Which it doesn’t.  It is crazy tight around the midsection.  I can’t sit or breathe in it!  But the next size up was much too big.  And how the heck do you get those horrible creases out of the faux leather?  I haven’t a clue.”

( I iron faux leather skirts Shelbee! Inside out!)

Next the always lovely Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style

The Bad Buy Book: skirts

“Well, it’s another episode of what Jodie can buy that really doesn’t work—ha ha!! ( Jodie’s words, not ours!)

Here’s my maxi skirt that I bought last year at the thrift store! I wanted a knit maxi skirt, and I love the colors, but it just didn’t work well for my style. There was too much going on in the print, and I never felt comfortable wearing it!!

I suppose I could have tried other options to see if something would work, but I gave up and donated it!”

And  finally me with my bad Buy skirt. The Bad Buy Book: skirtsI bought this one on a market in Rye on a holiday. Very cheap! I fall for cheap, isn’t that awfull! But I only like the colors, nothing else. It’s cotton and I don’t like cotton. It doesn’t form to your body. The Bad Buy Book: skirtsThis is also a bad buy skirt, it’s actually a very boring color and I never wear it as a skirt. I wore it here as a dress! But this one I bought when I was still working and got 50% discount, so I bought a lot of clothing then………still do……without the discount…..

That’s it for this month! Hope you liked to read about our Bad Buys and that you will participate next month!

The October theme will be: Jackets!

STYLED BY………. AMANDA

Styled by…….

Styled by…..tells the story behind someones style. What does a person tell by the way she or he is dressed?  What does it say about their personality? When did they began to create their own style? The series is published every first Tuesday of the month.

This month Amanda tells her style story!

Styled by………Amanda!

When I think back, I wore an absolute mother-mixed-up-style, which may be understood as how I wore what my mother picked up for me, which didn’t have a very defined nor clear style, nor cohesion at all. Instead, the clothing I wore when I was 14 had to endure many different activities: school, after school trainings, starting a bit of social life and events (weddings, baptisms, friends’ birthday’s parties…) so, when the event was formal I would be dressed as a super cute girl and, instead, when I went to the sports trainings in the evenings, everything would be super baggy and boyish. It was an absolute mess! Though time I think I’ve got to develop my own, balanced style.Styled By.....AmandaStyled By.....AmandaAlthough I may be one of the most organized person you’d ever meet, it’s still a real struggle for me to put some order into anything related to define myself, tell others what I do or even describe my style. So, let’s start at the beginning: I am simply a 23year-old woman about to end her degree in Architecture, Design and & Urban Planning who was born and raised in a medium-sized city near the Mediterranean Sea called Valencia (which is the third biggest city in Spain).
I think my style goes along pretty well with what I’m studying: I have total predilection for minimal pieces, which I always put together playing with volumes, textures and complementing shapes.Styled By.....AmandaI spend long hours at the Architecture School doing team presentations and tasks, so my outfits not only have to be chic and neat according to what’s expected from a young architect to look like: everything I wear has to be comfortable and endure the different situations I must go through the day until I arrive home pretty late at night. I would say my style is quite classy and timeless, but I also like to add pieces and details that fit my yet young age and endless vitality I have, specially when it’s about running from point A to point B in just a couple of hours.Styled By.....AmandaStyled By.....AmandaI wouldn’t say my style had a clear starting point, but it went through a significant push when I first started writing Something Fashion. I’ve been always encouraged to dress accordingly to every situation and event at home, and since a very young age. But, since Something Fashion meant not only my definitive immersion to the world of fashion, but also my growth from teenage to young adult; having my own fashion blog translated into more experimentation and freedom to develop my personal style, always keeping in mind those basics I would’ve heard from my closest ones.Styled By.....AmandaStyled By.....AmandaI don’t think I have a clear reference when it comes to clothing and putting together my daily outfits: I’m always looking at different sources not always directly related to fashion, but also architecture, product design, paintings, TV shows and many more. I’m influenced with clear lines, plain colours and basic patterns and everything that’s inherently beautiful. I think that’s the true amazing side of fashion: it draws from many different sources and is a faithful portrait of culture, history and society. For me, what’s most fascinating is that fashion has the power to help us exteriorize our best selves and tell the others who we really are without any word exchange in just an eye blink.Styled By.....AmandaStyled By.....AmandaThanks to Nancy for having me at Nancy’s Fashion Style and her section “Styled by”. It’s been a pleasure to meet such a charming lady who loves to share and inspire others through her daily outfits and sense of fashion.

Well, thank you for these kind words Amanda! It was a pleasure having you here. You can find Amanda’s blog here!

Do you also have a story to tell, and do you also have beautiful pictures of your style evolution? I, and many of my readers, want to read your story! I would love it if you can join the fun too! You can find all the info in the Styled by…..page or contact me via email.

SWING DRESS WITH FLORAL PRINT & FANCY FRIDAY LINKUP

Happy in my swing dress

I actually bought this swing dress for our 25th anniversary party, but when I was at the fashion show I decided to buy that skirt for the party. I think that it’s because my body is changing(read I am right in the middle of menopause) that I wear more wider clothes this season then before. A few years ago you could draw me out in pencilskirts and bodycon dresses. But I don’t feel comfortable in that anymore. First because my belly isn’t flat anymore and second because I think shapewear is awfull. I know I will surrender…..but not yet!

A black floral swing dress

This dress is made of cotton but the body is very stretchy what makes it very comfortable to wear. Because of the cotton, the skirt remains so wide, which is actually the intention of a swing dress. I wanted a brighter pink cardigan on this dress, but as I told you here, I seem to have a lot of problems finding perfect cardigans for dresses! Pffff. But this one looks good too, a brighter one would have taken the attention of the dress a bit more, so this one is proberbly better. The bracelets, or actually necklaces, are from the boulevard in Brighton. One of my favorite places to visit whenever we are in th UK. The espadrilles I really love. It’s wearing a high heel and you don’t feel it! Fantastic. And the green combines with so many dresses and skirts. I’ve been lucky enough to find nice shoes this season. Most of the time I don’t like summer shoes that much. I buy a lot of sandals, to settle for it, and then afterwards I don’t like them at all or they hurt a lot or whatever.(fantastic for our next Bad Buy Book theme! btw, please don’t forget to send us your photo for next month. Theme is sandals!) But this season I bought these, these and the ones I show today. All shoes I am in love with!

THE BAD BUY BOOK: TOPS

Welcome to July’s edition of The Bad Buy Book: Tops!

Let’s see who all bought a Bad Buy top!

First of all of course, is my lovely co-host Shelbee of Shelbee on The EdgeThe Bad Buy Book: topsI really liked this striped peplum top from Old Navy and didn’t buy it when I tried it on.  When I went back for it, they did not have my size so I bought one size smaller. And now it pulls across my chest, the sleeves feel too snug, and the peplum hits right at the widest part of my midsection.  It also gets all caught up in the back on the waistband of my pants.  I should have just ordered the correct size online!

Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style

The Bad Buy Book: tops

I guess I should be embarrassed that I have categories for everything you’ve talked about so far…ha ha!!( no Jodie, I love that you buy Bad Buys LOL!)

I’m including a photo of this blouse. I liked the blouse and it fit fine—until I washed it! Then it shrunk like no ones business!! Of course, I’m sure if I was more careful about how I wash my items, I might not have had this issue. But I’m one of those that everything needs to go in the washer and dryer or it just doesn’t work in my life!!!

Too bad, because the whole outfit looks amazing!

Your host! I could add so many bad buy tops. It’s awfull! The Bad Buy Book: tops

I don’t know exactly why I don’t like this top. I think it’s the neckline and the color.

Me again! (that should tell me something!)

The Bad Buy Book: topsAnd this one I only wore once to show here. Again it’s the color, now that I am showing it to you I understand I never must by a top in off white! How helpfull is The Bad Buy Book!

That’s it for now! Although several ladies said they had a Bad Buy top, they did not submit anything. That’s a pitty, I hope you will join next month!

If there are themes that you would find easier, then we would love to hear that!

Next month theme is: .,,Sitting Shoes Sandals”!

So remove those nasty, ugly, uncomfortable sandals from the closet, put them on your feet for one last time and take a picture! We would love to see them before August 10th.

Have a great weekend everybody!

FLORAL WRAP DRESS

Always feeling happy in a floral wrap dress

We are back a week from a short vacation to England. I will not bore you with the pictures because they are always the same. We love England and especially Sussex, and we went there for the I don’t know how many time! We had fantastic weather and spend a lot of time at the beach. And we always go to Brighton. Really a great city! So now our 25-year anniversary party is been( I write a post about that) and the holiday is over, it’s back to real life again. Fortunately, we still have great weather here in the Netherlands, so we can eat outside every night and stay outside till bedtime. I think that is so relaxing. When we got home there were a lot of packages that need to be unpacked, tried on and be photographed. Enough to do! I still remeber writing a post a while ago about how fun it seemed to be working with bloggers and companies. I also know I was complaining a little. Because it seemed like everyone had fun collaborations except for me! Now I really have to plan wich package and company comes first etc. How crazy is that! And….more important! I now have such a nice collaboration with Shelbee! Our Bad Buy Book series! I love it dear Shelbee. But one of the packages that was ready for me was this amazing floral wrap dress.

Floral wrap dress

I am already fond of dresses but especially wrap dresses. And after all the happy floral and pink and red outfits of the last weeks, I also like to wear a black dress again. But all black seemed to sober for a dress in this season. I wear very little orange but this dress has it combined with brown and I think that is very nice. Color, but still understated. The fun part of the dress is the high low hem line. I love that. I didn’t see it when I ordered the dress. An extra bonus! Btw, I later remembered I wore this shirtdress last year in orange and pink. Forgot all about it. And wearing the same shoes. I wore it right away yesterday!fashionable floral wrap dressfashion over 50 floral wrap dressdresses in floral wrap dressoutfit floral wrap dressfloral wrap dressfashion over 40 floral wrap dressbrown shoes and floral wrap dressfashion floral wrap dress
