BLUE EARRINGS ADDED TO MY 37 PAIR! & FANCY FRIDAY LINKUP

Blue earrings and a blue ring boho style

When I was thinking of a title for this post, I had to make a guess how many earrings I actually had. Btw, I only had one pair of blue earrings! (to make sure you understand that I needed blue earrings!)The next day I took the picture of all the earrings and I counted them.( I am so terribly honest that I can’t bare it to put a wrong amount here) And there were exactly 37 pairs of earrings! How coincidental! But good, that aside. With so many earrings you can say that I love earrings!

Me and my love for earrings

I can remember that I was six years old when I got my first earrings. That happened at the jeweler with a needle and a cork( yes, I am that old). After my ears were pierced I chose pendants with ladybugs and I got a bag of candy. In my puberty I expanded my pierced ears by five, at each side. I wanted to have my hole earache(?) full, but the fifth one gave so much pain that I left it at five. I wore hoops in all, in a different size from big to small. You can find here some very nice examples of wearing many earrings in each ear. I wore this till a few years ago. But at one point I found it to be a bit ordinary and that so many earrings didn’t fit me anymore. Now I wear earrings in two holes. In the top a small stone and in the lower small golden rings or larger earrings, depending on my outfit.

Blue boho earrings and boho ring

Well and how can you surprise this earring fanatic more then let her choose a pair! Fantastic. I choose these boho style statement earrings because I only have one blue pair!( oh oh what a shame!). And I choose this statement ring too! If you are a fan of statement earrings too, you really have to check the Happiness Boutique site. Not because I got a gift from them, but they really have stunning earrings.

THE BAD BUY BOOK: JEWELRY

Welcome to The Bad Buy Book!

The Bad Buy Book is a series hosted by Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge and Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style. We wanted to establish together something fun and new. We both talked about our,,Sitting Shoes,, and so we came up with the idea for The Bad Buy Book!

We all do our best to look great in our outfits, choose the right accessories, the right makeup, the perfect shoes, and wait for the best light to shoot the most flattering outfit photos. And now we are asking you to show us the items you don’t feel your very best in. You know, those ,,Sitting Shoes,, that dress that is actually not quite your color, the skirt that is a size too small but the saleswoman said it looked amazing. We all own those items!  And while they may look fabulous, they don’t always feel fabulous! So we want you to show us your bad buys and tell us the story about them! What made you purchase the item?  And why do you dislike it now?  And why not share them with us?  We buy these things for a reason then hide them in the back of the closet.  Now it’s their turn to share the limelight.

Every month on the 15 th, we will both publish a post sharing the photos you have sent us along with a few sentences about the bad buy. Photo submissions will be due by the 1 st of each month so we have time to edit and compile all of the entries. At the end of each post we will let you know the theme for the next month’s post. Photos and the story of your ”Bad Buy” can be emailed to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or nancybaten@upcmail.nl. Please put”Bad Buy” in the subject line.

This month’s theme is : Jewelry! Let’s take a look at your Bad Buy’s!

First of course is my charming co-host Shelbee of Shelbee On The EdgeThe Bad Buy Book JewelryThe Bad Buy Book Jewelry“I love the look of this triple strand of black beads for dressing up an outfit.  It is super versatile, too, being all black.  However, the wire that holds it all together has all of these tiny little loose ends that have not been properly tucked or cut and it scratches the heck out of my neck!  So it may be a pretty necklace but it is not so pretty when I am constantly fidgeting and scratching at my neck! I’m sure it is an easy repair, I just need to get around to fixing it.”

The Bad Buy Book: JewelryThe white necklace I bought at Gordmans when the bubble necklaces were all the rage! I really liked it except 2 of the bubbles always turned around—which is annoying, right? So I’ve since given it away.

Sonja of YustSoMeThe Bad Buy Book: JewelryI just bought these beauties a long time ago. And everytime I look in my drawer and see my precious bling bling earrings I wished they weren’t that heavy. It is fine to wear them for some blogpost pictures, but when I go out for a date or something I never wear them, because my (lelletje) is hurting after a while!

Your host NancyThe Bad Buy Book JewelryI’ll join you Sonja as these are way to heavy! Sorry Gerben….

Jodie has another Bad Buy!

The Bad Buy Book: JewelryThe blue necklace I bought at a consignment store. The pendant would move from side to side and make all kinds of noise while I was wearing it. This one was fixable with a little superglue though and now it stays put!!

And I am also great in Bad Buys, I’ve got another one too.The Bad Buy Book JewelryI love this leather bracelet. I think it’s really cool but…..I don’t like silver and I think the closure is to big. I bought this one seven years at a hippy market on Ibiza and since then I always say when I want to wear it that I have to look for a gold colored closure! Seven years!

Thank you Jodie and Sonja for your contribution! You are fantastic!
Now come on all you fabulous lady’s, and perhaps some men, you can’t make us believe you all don’t have your Bad Buys! So we want to see lots of contributions for next month.

Next month theme is: Dresses!

TALKING JEWELRY & FANCY FRIDAY LINKUP

Talking jewelry on a Fancy Friday.

This post is made in collaboration with Invaluable. I did not get paid and there was nothing gifted to me(sadly). But I love auctions and vintage jewelry.

Today I wanted to talk about how jewelry styles change with the seasons. Winter jewelry styles different a lot from jewelry you will wear in the summer. For the most part, winter jewelry is seen as more bold and a counterpoint to summer jewelry which is more relaxed. Winter jewelry is usually focused on making a statement, since most of the winter colors are darker. Summer jewelry, on the other hand, can be more form fitting and suggestively accentuating the outfit rather than standing out.jewelry

I got the ideas for this piece from this article by Invaluable called Jewelry Styles for Winter. They have some ideas I agree with but I definitely have some of my own. Invaluable sells vintage jewelry pieces so definitely check them out even just to browse. They have some cool stuff. Take a look at the brooches! I am a big fan of brooches lately and they offer some great ones ( lovely ones with dogs and cats) starting fron $1!jewelry

One thing I agree with Invaluable about is that using cocktail rings to bring color and flair to a dreary winter outfit can be a great option. If you’re wearing grey and black for the most part, that beautiful gemstone will really stand out and attract attention. It’s not an everyday piece though, save it for special events.jewelry

I personally like the look of matching diamonds to an all white outfit. It’s a very sleek and elegant look, and the diamonds simply blend better into a white outfit than black. The black fur with diamonds look is so 1950s. Another tip I have is matching jewelry to accent pieces in the outfit. So if you’re wearing a gold scarf, it might be the time to wear that gold ring. The two will stand out well with grey, black, or navy tones in the rest of the outfit. But you all know that I don’t wear much jewelry. But to save up for a unique ring and buying it on an auction is a great idea. Gerben likes watches. Expensive watches that is…. And he has a Omega  for years now. So also when you want to surprise your other half check this out!jewelry
