STYLED BY……….REMKE

Styled by……….

Styled by…..tells the story behind someones style. What does a person tell by the way she or he is dressed?  What does it say about their personality? When did they began to create their own style?

Every first Tuesday of the month you will  find a post here with someone who tells about her or his style.  Do you also have a story to tell, please contact me via email.

This month tells Remke about her style!

Styled by…..Remke!

When Nancy asked me whether I was willing to write a blogpost on her website for the column “Styled by…” I was a little reluctant to accept, because I wasn’t sure: did I already have a clothing style of my own? Wasn’t it just a year ago that one day I decided to put all my men’s clothes in bags and have these donated to charity? I had, of course, already some women’s clothing hanging in my closet, because in the Netherlands we have this saying: do not throw away your old shoes before you buy new ones. But to say that I immediately had a vision on what would be my clothing style? Not really. That style still had to be developed.

In the months that followed, I slowly extended my ladies wardrobe (and sometimes not that slow). That track was obviously accompanied by trial and error, in other words, with some bad buys. But by doing so I gradually discovered what I liked, what I didn’t like, what is me and what isn’t me, and what colors suit me and what colors definitely do not suit me.Styled by........

Because you know, sometimes something can look nice on the hanger, but that does not mean that it also looks nice on me. For instance I like dresses a lot, but the shape of my male body often throws spanner in the works: I’m tall, slender, angular, broad-shouldered for a woman and unfortunately I miss waist. My body shape is best described as straight and then dresses look like bags without a shape. I realize though that everybody criticizes her or his own figure. Nevertheless I was able to buy a couple of dresses, which I think look nice on me. Styled by.........Styled by.........

Styled by.........

I also love to wear skirts: pencil skirts, short skirts, midi-skirts, A-line skirts, etc. I guess that this has something to do with the fact that wearing skirts and dresses for a “man” is not really done 😉 and that now I am trying to regain the time I have lost in the past years.Styled by.........Styled by.........Styled by.........

To further refine my clothing style I looked a lot at what other women were wearing and how they were combining, both in color and in terms of pieces of clothing. I learned a lot from just observing. And gradually my own clothing style emerged, which I would describe as feminine, smooth and casual.Styled by........Styled by.........And occasionally as neatly dressed, if circumstances require that.Styled by......... I want to make sure though that I do not dress like a teenager: I don’t want to get nominated for the tv program “Hotter than my daughter”. By the way, I have a 19 year old daughter, so I do have a good reference point. On the other hand, I will not hesitate to buy something I really like to wear and I think it is compatible to who I am and who I stand for. As an example, I got myself a very nice summery, short nail vest; you can see a little part of my belly, that’s true. There were people telling me that I am too old for something like that. Obviously I don’t agree.Styled by.........Is my style finished? No, of course not. Style is never finished and will aways evolve, parallel to the development of the person. I do know that there is still a bit of Remco inside of me and that my womanhood has not yet reached maturity. These changes will no doubt be visible in my clothing style. And last but not least, it’s inevitable that aging will have an impact on my choice of clothing and the style of my clothing and you know, that is fine. My motto: seize the day, despite the age you have 😉

BLUE PLEATED SKIRT & SAGE COLD SHOULDER JUMPER & FANCY FRIDAY LINKUP

Yet again another (blue) pleated skirt.

Can’t help it. I love a pleated skirt. I was in doubt about a pink one, but I ultimately chose this blue pleated skirt. Very likely that I still purchase another one later in the season. Actually, I already have seen a pretty one! Zara has a midseason sale going on and I saw this one. What do you think, shall I buy this one? Or is it to shiny? Please let me know. A pleated skirt is just so beautiful. Feminine, dressy, and you can make all kinds of styles with it. From sporty to elegant.

My blue pleated skirt.

I have often said it, I like blue and green together a lot. For this skirt I wanted a green jersey, so that I could already wear the skirt now. I have enough green tops but it is way to cold to wear tops now. This sweater has the perfect color. Sage! Also a nice name for a color. The perfect color but not the perfect look! I am not really a cold shoulder fan and not at all a torn, ripped, distressed fan! But I love the color to much, so I have to get used to it. And I am no longer twenty anymore, should I still wear these kind off sweaters? But Gerben said it looked good. So if you think it’s too young, then I will blaim him! Let me know your opinion, I can handle it….on a good day.golden earrings and blue pleated skirtfashion blue pleated skirtsage and blue pleated skirtBoohoo.com and blue pleated skirtblue pleated skirtoutfit with blue pleated skirtgrey boots and blue pleated skirtcold shoulder and blue pleated skirt

SHOE TRENDS: UPCOMING SPRING ESSENTIALS

Shoe Trends: Upcoming Spring Essentials

Today I have Claire again as guest writer!

Remember that “Sex and the City” episode when Carrie was mugged? That was the episode where the probably the most iconic sentence was shouted: “Please sir, you can take my Fendi baguette, you can take my ring and watch, but you can’t take my Manolo Blahniks!” There is something about shoes that make us women feel super powerful, especially if our feet are “dressed” in the trendiest pair. To help you and your feet feel happy, here is a list of shoe trends for spring 2017.

Sock boots

Balenciaga went crazy with these on latest fashion shows. We have seen Rihanna rock their leather-velvet navy blues, and we admired those lime green ones as well as those square antelope leather ones. Besides Balenciaga, brands like Valentino and Celine also embraced this vibe. Not only do these cool boots look incredibly futuristic, they are also made of top-quality materials, since they have to be skintight. Not to mention that they are also comfortable as hell! You can find them in a wide range of styles and, while wearing them, you will feel like you have 2 layers of skin on your legs – which believe it or not, feels great!shoe trends

Wear them with:

You can copy Rihanna’s style and rock them with a striped button-down shirt and a mini denim skirt. They also go great with baggy jeans and oversized tops or crop tops – basically, they go with almost anything.

Flatforms

The trend that we thought will never see the sunlight again managed to come back once more. Platform sneakers or flatforms are among us, probably to remind us of the fashion of the ‘80s. People either hate them or adore them. Brands like Balmain, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci etc. really embraced these, and you can now find them in literally any color and pattern. Silver or black ones with white stars are probably the most popular choice.SHOE TRENDS

Wear them with:

If you decide to buy these, go all the way and combine them with eighties-like garments such as leggings and one-shoulder T-shirts. You go girl!

Glittery slip-on shoes

It is simple – many of us just don’t enjoy heels. That’s why slip-on shoes or ballet pumps will always be here for us. They are a great option when you want to be trendy, but want to avoid heels. Not to mention that they also got a glittery update now, so you will definitely stand out.shoe trends

Wear them with:

Since they are so girly-like, they will go great with those cute day dresses every woman must have. Also, you are free to wear them with your blouse, jacket and skinny jeans if you love that cute, college-girl vibe.

Kitten heels

Kitten heels were never this popular and cool. Kitten heels are basically shoes with super short and slender heels (from 1.5 inches to 1.75 inches), which became popular thanks to Audrey Hepburn. Even though many girls think of them as “granny heels”, check out what famous designers had done to them, like Celine – with their straps and ties, Dior – with their logoed version, and Miu Miu with their transparent flower details.shoe trends

Wear them with:

Since they are super elegant, they go great with business attire, but since it is the year 2017, who can forbid you to rock them with your boyfriend jeans and a bold tank top?

Athletic inspired boots

From all of those athleisure combinations, this is something that just had to happen, even though we didn’t expect it. Dior and Versace decided to launch boxer-like boots that, surprisingly, look incredibly cool and versatile. Versace and Maison Martin Margiela also followed this vibe, and as far as we can see, they are going to stay among us for a while.shoe trends

Wear them with:

Again, since it is the year 2017, your options are limitless, but try sticking to minimalistic and monochrome outfits since these boots are already over the top.

That would be it. What do you think about these trends? Let us know in the comments.

DO YOU LOVE A BLUE DRESS WITH BLUE BOOTS?

And with that blue dress also a blue jacket!

I always like to get involved in series provided by bloggers. As I do every month with the How I Wear My series from Adrienne and Jill. (Talking about such….I am very thrilled about a collaboration with the lovely Shelbee from Shelbee on the EdgeWe will kick off very soon!) And this month the theme is blue. I immediately thought of my blue dress that I have worn here . But I hadn’t worn it yet with this jacket, so for these series it seemed like the perfect opportunity. I love a monochrome outfit, but it has to have different textures. Otherwise I think it will be boring( says plain jane).

And what about my hair?

These photos were taken a few weeks ago. We then had an evening party of a friend who turned fifty. I had that day an appointment with my hairdresser and asked if she could do something nice with my hair for the party. Well, she certainly did! Since my fifteenth I have been somewhat struggling with my hair. I am often not happy with the color or the lenght or whatever. My hair is very thick and dry. If it is not cut right, I can do nothing with it. I had a lot of hairdressers in the past years. Since two years I found the perfect hairdresser for me. She cuts perfectly and always advice me for the color. The last time I was colored and cut, she was on maternity leave and I had another hairdresser. I told her how to cut my hair and to take a good look at my hair for the color( in autumn I wanted my hair a little bit more red, but because my hair is so dry, the color runs very quickly so red is a no go for me, I know now). She said: I am a hairdresser for over twenty years now, so I probably know how to cut. And I thought, okay, I should have a bit of faith. No! Stupid of course! If it takes 35 years to find the perfect hairdresser then it is obvious that another one doesn’t cut your hair the right way! Or colour it perfectly! She had cut the layers to short and cut my hair in a point on the back. Yeah, great idea whit dry hair! Didn’t learn that in 20 years right! And she colored it with a bit of red while my hair was already quite becomming orange. And there was also a strand of hair which she had forgotten, it was longer then the rest. I was very glad that my own hairdresser was back this time. She cut the layers in the right way and we decided to use a cooler color. And now I am happy again.

Me and my blue dress.

I love this dress, it’s  an easy dress. It has no zipper and it is very stretchy. I bought these boots especially for this dress. I don’t believe I have worn them with anything else….oh yeah here. I also love this jacket, it goes with anything. The scarf I knitted last year with the most simple stich. Nothing special. And I am wearing blue tights. I added a beautiful brooch of a bunch of grapes with Pearls and blue earrings. I mean, you wear a monochrome look or you don’t!

LOOKING BACK AT 2016 & FANCY FRIDAY LINKUP

The last Fancy Friday of the year! Let’s make it the best!

Looking back at 2016

I had actually planned for today another post, but I thought it would be nice to have a moment to look back on 2016. Not only on blogging area but simply about everything. I got the idea when I wanted to see how my blog looked like a year ago and read the post of the same day a year ago. I remembered I was very disappointed in my social life and that I wanted to change that in 2016. What I did was just let go…..letting go of friendships that don’t bring you anything, only sucking the energy out of me. And suddenly new friendships were made, as if I was more open to it( I think). I was not sick in 2016……at least not for a week ago! I got very sick last week but I feel much better now and my lungs weren’t affected so I was very happy! Further I’m somewhat deteriorated, my energy is less and less, but I can cope better with it. We went twice to the UK and the second time twice as long as normal. England is a real treat for us, we love it there. We can’t wait to go again. We had some great weekend trips and nothing really bad happened with our family and friends. But the highlight for me was the concert of The Cure. Like if I was in a daze the whole time.

And what has changed with the blog?

Well actually a lot! Here is the post from the same day last year. I still love the outfit, but the pictures were taken by phone and this was the free wordpress site and I had never heard of SEO. Pity that I can’t see anymore how many visitors I had back then. I also didn’t host the Fancy Friday linkup yet. That started here. My goal was to have 100 linkups per week by the end of the year. That did not happen, the highest was 87. But I am secretly quite a bit proud. In April I switched to a self-hosted site and I learned so much more! You should know that before I  started blogging, I had never worked with a computer. Yes, I could send e-mails but that was it. Before I started the free blog, I went to a four night course about blogging and the rest I figured out all by myself. And I  am very happy and proud of my little playground! And now I must see if I can articulate a good sense because I don’t want to sound so cliché. I find it incredibly amazing that I have so many loyal readers around the world. Thank you for reading, participating and commenting! Awesome!

I wish you all  a very nice New Year’s Eve!

WEARING A BLAZER & JOGGERS & CO-HOSTING!

Mixing a blazer with a joggers!

Today I am wearing a combination of dressed and casual with a blazer and joggers. I love these pants. It feels as good  as a real sweatpants and yet stylish. Today I am wearing it a bit dressier. I showed you the pants  before here, but I like it better with a blazer and a blouse. As you probably know by now I do not wear pants often, although I lately have showed quite a few. But when I wear pants then preferably a bit like this style. Casual but a bit dressier. I don’t like a totall casual look at myself. Since I saw Nicole, from High Latitude Style, wearing socks in sandals, I’m a big fan of wearing socks and these aren’t open shoes but I show a bit of the (glitter) sock anyway. It’s a great thing to get inspired by other bloggers from all over the world.

Something totally different like blazers and joggers!

When I was still working, I of course knew that a time would come when I could no longer work because of my hereditary lung disease. I then had always in my mind that I would do volenteer work and that would be something with the homeless. Never occured to me that when I couldn’t work anymore, I also wouldn’t be able to mean much for others. But especially at this time of the year( but certainly not only at this time of the year) this group of people is in my thoughts and I pray, in my own way, for them. They are people, with feelings! Usually with a lot of misery behind them, and not only behind them. Please think of that when you see them on the streets.

And speaking of Nicole……today I may proudly co-host her Top of the World Style fashion linkup party. This is the beautiful outfit that inspired me to wear socks in sandals.
