IS THRIFT SHOPPING SOMETHING FOR YOU?

IS THRIFT SHOPPING SOMETHING FOR YOU?

Is thrift shopping something you like to do?

I have told you before that I would give thrift shopping a chance while I was in England. I also said that I knew wich store I would visit because they have always a very beautiful dress in the window. In the Netherlands I never thrift shop because I hate the smell in those stores. And I don’t feel comfortable in second hand stores. But I want to give it a honest chance. And I like everything better in England, so my choice was made. Well, I went to that store and for the first time in years there was no stylish dress in the window. Just a simple black&white tunic. Okay, I went inside but what normally hangs in the window was not a reflection of what was inside. I am a terrible ,,sewer pit,,( I don’t think this is the right word) in the area of hygiëne and I was very resisted to search for a nice bargain. This wasn’t the shop for me.

I also visited a second hand store in Hastings, well I actually stayed outside. There were a few racks with clothing outside, And at some point I saw a beautiful dress, right size too. With a big STAIN! Yugh! That’s what I did not need on my thrift shopping experience! And I immediately decided that I didn’t want to check the store inside anymore. A bit stupid because in this window there hung a very nice dress. Later I had a few regrets that I didn’t give thrift shopping a better chance. So in five weeks I am going back and I will explore the shops better and even take pictures and perhaps show you a purchase! But for now I leave you with a new dress. I was allowed to choose several dresses for a collaboration. I actually love shopping at thrift store, but there can be bad products at times!! It’s very much a treasure hunt, so there will be times that you don’t find anything!!
Hopefully you will have better luck next time!
    I love your dress, Nancy!!

Thank you Jodie! Yes, I think you are right. But in my area there are no good thrift shops. But in a few weeks I will give it another chance!

Haha, yes it is! I don t think I will never find a ,,Chanelletje,, somewhere in a corner of a shop.

Leuk al die kleine details die je hebt afgestemd in je outfit. Je schoenen hebben mijn aandacht. 🙂

Try the British Heart Foundation. They are very careful about their goods. I have had DESIGNER clothes. Cancer Research shops are great too. They have the same high quality things. They are all over the UK.

je setje! Ik vraag me weleens af, of jij nooit door jouw outfits ‘heen’ raakt..?

    • May 16, 2017 / 1:27 pm

Hahaha, dat vragen er meer! Ik combineer ook wel hoor! Haha, en ik krijg ook wel wat!

The stain would have threw me off as well! Hopefully you will have better luck next time! However, this maxi dress that you are wearing is so pretty! I love the floral prints!

I’m not a fan of thrift shopping. I did it when I was younger but now I just don’t feel like looking for ages just to find one piece of clothing. I’m sticking to regular shopping!

    • May 16, 2017 / 1:36 pm

It s not my cup of tea either. But I will give it a second chance!

Love this fun maxi, Nancy! The floral print really pops and looks great on you! As for thrift stores, definitely not for me. I really believe that everything has energy connected to it – either positive or negative – and I would forever be thinking about who owned/wore the item before me. I know, so neurotic, right?! 🙂

    • May 16, 2017 / 5:34 pm

No, that’s not neurotic. I think the same!

Where I live (NY), most thrift-stores carry clothes so un-worn they seem new. Women here buy and donate clothing frequently, with very little wear. So the offerings in our thrift-stores seem new, only cheaper. Come over and shop here!

I love the flowers on your dress! And… I giggled at your photo… ‘Pam you hair dances’! Amazing beautiful hair!

    • May 16, 2017 / 8:31 pm

That’s from a long time ago! well, it isn’t that beautiful, it’s very dry!

Ik heb nog nooit kleding tweedehands gekocht, voel me er op de 1 of andere manier niet zo prettig bij. De jurk staat je geweldig, erg leuk!

    • May 16, 2017 / 8:35 pm

Dank je! :), ik kan ook niet echt aan t idee wennen. Ik geef t over drie weken nog een l kans en anders is t gewoon echt niet voor mij!

    Nancy,
I love your dress, necklace, and chain detailed sandals ! All very chic and great looking on you!
I do thrift shop all of the time, i love to up-cycle . I also love consignment shops, there are some here in NYC that are quite $$$ and fancy, but still excellent values.
    Have a great mid-week!

Honestly it’s not for everyone, don’t feel like you need to force yourself to thrift shop if you really don’t like it. You might just end up hating it more and regretting it 🙂 It’s not something I like either as I am afraid of germs and old clothes too, so I completely feel you 🙂 You look gorgeous though, lovely outfit!

No! That’s what I mean! Vivienne Westwood! OMG, I’m a fan back from the days she started the first store with Malcom Mclaren!

I rarely buy anything second-hand, although there is an amazing consignment shop in Seattle which has absolutely no smell – thank goodness! – and sells high-end designer pieces. I bought my one-year wedding anniversary dress and shoes there. 😉 I love your floral midi dress, by the way!

Really? I think I have to give it a proper chance!,

  17. May 18, 2017 / 5:42 pm

I think perhaps I’d like some higher end thrift shops, but otherwise I don’t think I have the patience for it!!! 🙁 I know, my bad!! I do have some friends that find some really good finds in thrift shops, tho! I love those sandals with the chains on them!

In the states, we have more retail per capita than any other country, so there is no wonder that we have a proliferation of thrift shops. They are seem to get more popular after the 2008 meltdown. I am always on the lookout for good brick and mortar consignment shops, which are the ones I find hard to fine in the Kansas City area. Two great ones closed their doors during the last three years and no one has replaced them. So, I go to Poshmark and RealReal on line and have to deal with if something is going to fit or if I am going to have to do alterations after I get it. I know the UK has the shops because I read Brit bloggers who show off what they find in them. I wonder is Oxfam had quality things-I know they have shops.

    • May 19, 2017 / 8:46 am

Thank you Terri! The UK has many, I was thrift shipping there. But I m afraid it s not quite something for me.

  20. May 22, 2017 / 12:32 pm

I very rarely thrift shop, as I typically do not have the time or inclination. I think it really depends on where you live whether or not it is worth it.

Your floral dress is really cute. I like the large flowers and colors! Fab shoes, too. 🙂

    • May 22, 2017 / 7:40 pm

Thanks! I think so too, I sometimes see amazing finds from bloggers in the US. I know that something like that is not anywhere to be found in the Netherlands!
