The shirt dress is very trendy at the moment, although you saw them a lot in spring collections too. This is an item that is always stylish, easy to wear and versatile. I own several shirt dresses, see here and here, and basically I never wear them barelegged. I don’t like them barelegged. The one I am wearing today is been on the blog before here and you can see I only wear it in the colder months while the fabric is chiffon, so it’s really a summer item. But not for me, today I am wearing a gray shirt dress with dark brown!

Colors that you’re not supposed to wear together!

Last week I told a bit in this post about what my style says over me. I remember now that I forgot to mention that I am terribly stubborn. Yes yes, self- reflection. I love contradictions, smart and tough, pink and red, blue and green, masculine pants with high heels… And so I wear this gray shirt dress with dark brown, wich actually is not done in fashion world. But yeah, stubborn. First I think the boots are beautiful with the shirtdress( the shoemaker could not take anything of the heel so these are sitting boots). And it seemed to me not at all nice to add another color to make it a little brighter. And why should I, it doesn’t have to be smart, it has to be the way I like it!

And who decides then what you can and can’t wear together, you yourself surely! If you find it beautiful and you feel good in it, it’s good. Well, that is not entirely true, it depends on your demands on the way you want to look. There are plenty of women who wear something because they have to wear something. You hardly can go outside in your bare ass. And then I may think, oh dear you could look so much nicer if you put a little more affort into it. But if that women is not interested in the way she looks, who am I to say that she could look so much better. But okay, I think gray and dark brown go well together, it depends on the items and the accesories. Gold colored earrings to keep a warm touch in my face, wooden bangles and a corsage to secretly brighten it up…Nancy’s style!

Shirtdress: this one is from last year, I saw a nice one here*

Boots: these were from h&m last year, these hereare gorgeous too, check the heel!

This is where I link up!

  1. Nancy, you are too funny! I love the term “sitting boots”! I think I have quite a few pairs of shoes that I must start calling “sitting shoes”! And this…”You hardly can go outside in your bare ass.” Hahahaha! I suppose that is quite true, but a really stubborn person may just try that!

Anyway, I love gray and brown together. And gray and tan or gray and camel. I love the play with the deeper, darker neutral tones. And you most certainly nailed this look…Nancy-style! Well done, my friend. You look gorgeous!

  2. The grey & brown together remind me of my first house, where I put up a curtain in the guest bathroom to hide the washer & dryer. The curtain had browns & greys in it (i have no idea why I bought it—unless it was given to me) and I was never sure if I liked it much!
But now I appreciate the neutrals together much more!!
And that flower pin is totally up my mom’s alley!! If I didn’t know better, I would think you raided her closet–ha ha!

  3. I don’t think that there are any bad color combos and you’re proving that to be true. Gray and brown can work very well together in the right shades and proportions. Your outfit is a lovely example of how those colors can work together. Thanks for sharing your style and for hosting.

  5. Well, I’m finally back to comment (added my links on Friday); Friday and the weekend were super busy…

Your link up is growing! And look at your comments! You are getting the attention you deserve!

I love black and brown together, so I think it makes sense that I’d like grey & brown together. I think the grey shirt dress looks fabulous with your brown sitting boots!

    Have a great week!

  6. I know the shirtdress is a classic and trending right now, but I’ve never found them terribly inspiring. But, as you’ve shown here, it’s all in the styling. I absolutely adore the flower brooch. Between that and the tassel belt and knee boots, the shirtdress feels like a blank canvas with loads of possibility. And I love the rich, dark color palette. It feels so Baroque and luxe!

I’m so drawn to statement pieces and flourishes that I take versatile workhorses like this for granted. I guess I think basics lack personality, but this is such a fabulous look full of personality! Maybe I’m just being lazy and need to bring the personality with my accessories! lol

    1. Ha ha thank you for your lovely comment! It is that if you have a rather dull piece, you should make something off it. That’s why I don’t like to wear this one in summer, just plain with sandals? Nah.
