FANCY FRIDAY linkup party

tulips in contact
May 20, 2016

Fancy Friday linkup is on. Read more at the bottom of this post!

First of all I want to thank everyone for linking up last week. Since I was(and still am) on holiday I didn’t have the time to thank everyone personally.

Today my post is a bit different than normal. I want to talkabout blogging today. I write my blog always in my own words, I don’t think about what sounds best or how I present myself at best. I am just me! I want to share the following with you.

When I started blogging, slightly more than a year ago, I did because I wasn’t able to work anymore and I already was searching for something usefull to do. Only cleaning is not going to bright my day! I told you before, I love writing and have a passion for fashion, so this was it. Meanwhile I switched to self hosting and learned more and more. Every time I think, well my blog is finished, there is something new to learn and explore. Blogging gives me a lot of satisfaction and the feeling that I still can contribute something to ….whoever, whatever. What surprised me when I went to self hosting was, I did not transfer my followers from fashionandfoodandotherstuff because I wondered who was going to follow me again, that bloggers with whom you thought you had a nice contact, did not follow me again. Then I noticed that I always responded to them, but not vice versa. What an eye opener. And now I have to say quite honestly that most of them were Dutch bloggers. You would expect that you give each other a little support. But no, Dutch people for that matter always give better criticism than give another blogger too much. It’s a pity.

But what do I actually want to say before this becomes an extremely long story?

I want to say THANK YOU!flowers in Fancy Friday linkup

Because what surprised me and made me happy, is that the bloggers who faithfully respond are the ones with much populair blogs. I am only just Nancy, wearing my own style( not everyones cup of tea) pictures taken with a simple camera, preferable in my own garden because it costs me too much energy to take pictures at a better location. And my most loyal readers have far more professional blogs, with a huge amount of followers and comments, and then they make the effort and the time to read my blog and also to react. I find that incredible! Thank you, I’m very thankful for that!

Well, time for something more lighthearted!

And now it’s time for the start of the Fancy Friday linkup party. Every Friday you can show yourself and meet other bloggers. Even if you’re not a blogger you can join!

This is how it works:

  1. Follow your host on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
  2. Link up your blog below.
  3. Share the love by visiting other blogs in the linkup party.
  4. Share a link to Nancy’s Fashion Style on your post or give a little shout out on social media.

My link-up party grows each week a little bit, but…(you know my nickname is the very hungry caterpillar), I’m not satisfied until I have 50 fantastic bloggers joining, so I could really use your support on this. Thank You!

    1. Ah thank you Gemma, that is such a great compliment comming from a blogger like you! Perhaps we get to meet eachother one day when I am in the UK again! Have a great weekend love.

  1. I’ve been blogging for almost 18 months and I have to say it still fascinates me with all that goes on to get it out there and noticed. It takes a lot of time and work. Commenting is a big part of the big picture and I’m glad that everyday I meet someone new and the interaction on both ends is what keeps me coming back. It’s been fun following you on Instagram and your fashion finds. Keep up the good work.

  2. I’m glad you enjoy blogging! It makes me very happy, too. And I love your blog — it’s so authentic. That’s the quality that attracts me.

    1. Really, I am now reading all your comments after another and it makes me so so so very happy! I had a terrible headache all day and its clearing now!

  3. Hi Nancy, I’m sorry to hear that the Dutch bloggers did not continue to follow you again after you self-hosted your site — BUT I will certainly continue to follow you! You’re my European buddy, and I adore your style! Keep doing what you are doing!
    Wishing you a Happy Weekend!!
    xoxo, Vanessa

  4. How funny you say those things Nancy because I was just thinking the same thing. I consider this blogging thing to be a way not only to have fun with clothes & fashion, but also to engage with others. So it is disheartening when there isn’t the tit for tat —it doesn’t have to be every time, but for some reason I like to form a relationship. And a one-way relationship is no fun!!
It’s definitely more fun to join a party like yours!!
    Happy Vaca!

    1. Yeah, thats true. I rather have little followers who like to read my blog than a hole lot who just want to present themselves! Have a great weekend!

  5. I have been blogging for seven years, and what has kept me going are the connections I have made. I have readers who have been following me since the very beginning (even though the focus of my blog has shifted). Some of them never comment, but once in a while they send me an email. I don’t think they realize how happy they make me!

And, yes, I have noticed, too, that some never reciprocate. On the other hand, there are many I feel very connected to. I know that blogging and commenting is very time consuming, and I ALWAYS feel behind, but without the connections, I don’t think I would blog anymore…

Thanks for hosting, and have a fabulous weekend, Nancy!

    1. Thank you for your thought about this! I feel the same way, and the longer you blog and react and read other blogs, the better you get to know you all and that is such a great thing! Happy weekend Andrea

  6. Glad you like blogging Nancy. You should check out my post today with some thoughts on blogging and more. + Thanks for the linkup and those gorgeous purple tulips!

    Have a great weekend!

    Ada. =)

  7. Nancy, I enjoyed reading your message. I think blogging should be an expression of ones self, as yours is. I have been blogging just a bit over 2 years and did it first as a creative outlet and a diversion from my EDS, but have found it to be much more with meeting lovely people, in addition to sharing my love of fashion

    Have a great weekend
    Jess xx

  8. I have only been blogging for about 10 months (with a 4 month break in the middle!) and I have found such a wonderful community of like-minded bloggers! I only recently discovered your blog and I really enjoy it. It is a ton of work (more than I anticipated) for something I started to do for similar reasons as you…plus I needed to occupy myself while my husband was deployed. I only recently started really treating this like a job (I do still enjoy it even with that approach) because I do have a purpose and a goal with this. Keep at it if you makes happy and know that you clearly already have lots of loyal followers on this new blog. And I definitely gained much from reading this post in particular. So thank you!

    1. I am so glad you feel that way. And yes, I am surprised that I have those loyal followers. I
Am glad that blogging is also do satisfying for you too! Happy weekend 🙂

  9. Such lovely photos! I truly enjoyed reading your thoughts on blogging and comments. I have to admit I sometimes get really far behind in responding to the comments on my blog, but I do try to always visit those who leave a comment and respond on their post. Glad to learn of your link up and I will add it to my regular Friday list. 🙂

  10. It takes time to build a blog and yes, it can be disheartening when people don’t comment particularly if you regularly comment on theirs. It shouldn’t be tit for tat but a little recognition now and then goes a long way. If I join a link party I always comment on the blog. I see so many people who link and run and don’t even bother to comment on the host’s blog post. Even a simple thanks for hosting is just manners!
However, as you’re discovering there are many genuine bloggers out there who are interested in finding like-minded people and that’s the joyful aspect of blogging.
What a gorgeous photo of the purple tulips (one of my favourite flowers) and the lilac pansies!

    1. Thank you, I agree. I don’t think that when you comment, they have to comment back, I mean people may not like your blog, but when you chat for a long time, like months, and you find out that they don’t even visit your blog that’s a bit of a cold shower. Those tulips were in the garden of Hever castle. They are also my favorites.

        1. Oh Really? Do you live more in the south? We always go to the south. I love Hever castle also, this was the second time we went there.

  11. Hi Nancy! Thank you for hosting and being so open in this post. Blogging can be both fun and hard work at the same time! I generally take note of who reciprocates and then am more proactive with them. Happy Friday!

  12. What pretty flowers you have in your garden!
I’m afraid I’m very bad when it comes to commenting on blogs, as I often don’t comment at all. You see, I often read blogs on the go, while on the train or bus, and on my mobile. Writing anyyhing on the mobile drives me crazy, it takes ages and there are a lot of spelling mistakes and I have to watch out for my stop… And as I don’t spend my day in front of a computer and often come gome late, I just don’t start my computer in the evening any more… There might be a few people like me out there who read and seldom comment, but they keep coming back. And then there are people who are not bloggers themselves (those who comment tend to be bloggers), I’m intrigued by them . Because they come back simply because they like you, even though you know nothing about them.
    Have a great weekend, Nancy!

    1. I understand what you are saying, but you know it when someone, like for example yourself, is interrested in your blog. Like you, you may not comment to much but you support my linkup, what is very much appreciated, or like my Instagram picture. It is not that everyone has to comment but after a while you can see ,or feel or whatever, the difference in bloggers who are only interrested in themselves and the bloggers who love to meet other bloggers and love to chat or read each others blog! I am very glad that I ,,met,, you because I love the way you write! Have a great weekend!

  15. Hello I love your description of your self. I think I like you, smiles. Your interest in fashion and style is similar to mine. I tend to post style more on IG but occasionally waffle style on my blogs. I am from Sussex England and blog mostly random bits about that. I’m going to be your new follower.

    1. Oh well, if you are from Sussex I am gonna follow you also! Lol! I am going to look at your blog right away, you made me curious. You have got a Dutch name!
