SWING DRESS WITH FLORAL PRINT & FANCY FRIDAY LINKUP

Happy in my swing dress

I actually bought this swing dress for our 25th anniversary party, but when I was at the fashion show I decided to buy that skirt for the party. I think that it’s because my body is changing(read I am right in the middle of menopause) that I wear more wider clothes this season then before. A few years ago you could draw me out in pencilskirts and bodycon dresses. But I don’t feel comfortable in that anymore. First because my belly isn’t flat anymore and second because I think shapewear is awfull. I know I will surrender…..but not yet!

A black floral swing dress

This dress is made of cotton but the body is very stretchy what makes it very comfortable to wear. Because of the cotton, the skirt remains so wide, which is actually the intention of a swing dress. I wanted a brighter pink cardigan on this dress, but as I told you here, I seem to have a lot of problems finding perfect cardigans for dresses! Pffff. But this one looks good too, a brighter one would have taken the attention of the dress a bit more, so this one is proberbly better. The bracelets, or actually necklaces, are from the boulevard in Brighton. One of my favorite places to visit whenever we are in th UK. The espadrilles I really love. It’s wearing a high heel and you don’t feel it! Fantastic. And the green combines with so many dresses and skirts. I’ve been lucky enough to find nice shoes this season. Most of the time I don’t like summer shoes that much. I buy a lot of sandals, to settle for it, and then afterwards I don’t like them at all or they hurt a lot or whatever.(fantastic for our next Bad Buy Book theme! btw, please don’t forget to send us your photo for next month. Theme is sandals!) But this season I bought these, these and the ones I show today. All shoes I am in love with!

POLKA DOT DRESS IN RED WHITE AND BLUE

My old polka dot dress

But first I want to thank Catherine of Not Dressed As Lamb for her fantastic post about nofollow links. It took me half a day to figure it out( and a hole lot more things to sort out) but it made me finally change some important matters on my blog. Thank you so much catherine!

This is an old polka dot dress. I think I own this one for about six or seven years now. Bought in the shop were I used to work. I bought a lot of clothes back then because I got a 50% discount. And if you get new clothes in every day, you get greedy. I can remember buying this dress and thinking: let’s get that one because I havn’t got anything with polka dots. Actually, I can’t remeber wearing a polka dot dress or anything else with polka dots. I wear stripes, not a lot but I do wear them. I wear checkered garments regularly, but not dots. At least as a child I did, because I found this very old photo of me in a polka dot blouse! It’s a very poor quality, I know, but I thought it would be fun to show you. Also funny is that the blouse is blue and white with a little bit red! Just as this outfit!

Polka dot dress with a touch of red

I have never found a good cardigan with this dress. Till now that is. I had bought red flats, when I bought the dress, and wanted a red short cardigan with it. Never found one. Or the color wasn’t right, or the fabric wasn’t. There seemed to be always something wrong. I then bought a white one but was never really happy with the combination. I’ve been wearing a denim jacket on this dress a lot. But finally in April I found a simple red cardigan that I also wore here. I’d rather had it a bit shorter but I settle for this one. The stupid thing is that I finally have the cardigan, that I had wanted six or seven years ago, but now the dress is actually a bot too tight because I gain weight in the last years. Is that fate? Lol.

But finally the dress with a red cardigan

I just think this is the most beautiful combination of the dress, with red. It looks a bit Spanish. Also because of the ruffles of course. I do not show the dress without the cardigan. It has the same sleeves as at my childhood picture, but I can’t wear it with the buttons closed, I actually can’t for a long time! Lol.me as a little girl in polka dot dress

FASHION OVER 50: ZIGZAG PRINT ON PLEATED SKIRT & FANCY FRIDAY LINKUP

And how should fashion over 50 look?

And do I look that different then I was when I was 20? Yes of course! Fashion over 50 is different then over 20. Just like everything else in your life, the way you dress yourself changes over the years. I once thought(in my twenties) that cycling for fun was awfull, I thought I would be in nightclubs dancing all night for the rest of my life, I never noticed the birds singing in spring when I was in my twenties! So yes, also the way I dress has changed. I don’t wear short skirts anymore, I don’t like to wear sleeveless anymore and I don’t like my dresses to tight anymore. But that doesn’t mean I now, at the age of 50, have to dress frumpy.  I still wear what I like! And today I like to wear a somewhat stuffy outfit!

Is a pleated skirt fashion over 50?

Well not necessarily, but today I wanted  to wear something a bit frumpy. Click here for more inspiration on pleated skirts. Not that I think it’s frumpy, I think this is a fanstastic outfit! I love it! I told you before here that I would show you how the sweater would look like with this skirt. But I liked the outfit so much that I decided to dedicate a hole post to it. So now I am hoping that you don’t sigh: Oh there she is again with that pleated skirt. I also showed you my blue pleated skirt. Haha. I also had already bought a pink one so I think you see me wearing the entire summer pleated skirts. I wore big earrings with it and a small pink belt. I wanted to wear my pink mules but the pink of the mule didn’t match the pink in the sweater.

GREEN CULOTTES AND BLUE SHOES

New green culottes and fabulous blue shoes

These are my third culottes. Even though I’ve given my first away real soon afther buying. I could not get used to these. So probably it was just the fit because when I bought another one I really did not regret it. This one I wore a lot! And when I attended a fashion show, a couple of weeks back, I bought this green culotte. A really beautiful color and the fabric is so soft and a bit silky. I am sure I’ll wear this one very often too. You can find some great styling tips for your culottes here. I also bought a few weeks back these gorgeous blue shoes! Shoes that I immediately fell in love with( yeah I know that happens to me often!)

Why am I wearing a sleeveless top?

At the fashionshow I also bought this top to go with the green culottes. I had previously said that I would not wear any sleeveless tops anymore  because I have very ugly arms, I forgot about this when I bought the top. I really thought this was very strange, that I have these ugly, old looking arms, because I work out a lot. I asked my physical therapist, with whom I also work out with, and asked him for other exercises for my arms. He said my arms were muscular but that the skin was very dry.

I always use this bodymilk for under the shower. In the morning I always use a cheap body lotion and when I go to sleep I use cool cream on my arms and legs. Well, Gerben always says that the shower cot is full with a grease emulsion of the bodylotion, so I probably rinse most of it away. The morning lotion is, like I said, cheap so probably not that effective. And the cool cream is very fat but was not meant for my dry skin. (a few years ago, I suddenly got red spots on my feet and legs. My GP sent me straight to the dermatologist, whose assistent was a total bitch, she was poised because she could not reach me by telephone. We then had just moved out of our house and our telephone was disconnected, however I had that morning mailed my mobile number to the dermatologist. I pointed that to her and then she saw my number on the screen. Now she was even more pissed! The dermatologist looked at my legs and feet and without touching them, he said: you have a pulmonary disease right? Then it must come from that. What? I responded that I would like him to look further then my lung disease. He then started searching on the net, I told him that I already had done that. And then he said: well, I have to look for it in my books at home. Yeah duh! What good will that do for me? I told him that I did not get the impresion that he would help me with this and walked away. What an asshole was that!) Where was I…So I went to the drugstore and bought a few tubes of better bodylotions and it seems to be working. So I hope to have better looking arms for the the rest of the summer then you see here. But they are muscular! Lol.

THE BAD BUY BOOK: TOPS

Welcome to July’s edition of The Bad Buy Book: Tops!

The Bad Buy Book is a series hosted by Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge and Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style. We wanted to establish together something fun and new. We both talked about our,,Sitting Shoes,, and so we came up with the idea for The Bad Buy Book!

We all do our best to look great in our outfits, choose the right accessories, the right makeup, the perfect shoes, and wait for the best light to shoot the most flattering outfit photos. And now we are asking you to show us the items you don’t feel your very best in. You know, those ,,Sitting Shoes,, that dress that is actually not quite your color, the skirt that is a size too small but the saleswoman said it looked amazing. We all own those items!  And while they may look fabulous, they don’t always feel fabulous! So we want you to show us your bad buys and tell us the story about them! What made you purchase the item?  And why do you dislike it now?  And why not share them with us?  We buy these things for a reason then hide them in the back of the closet.  Now it’s their turn to share the limelight.

Every month on the 15 th, we will both publish a post sharing the photos you have sent us along with a few sentences about the bad buy. Photo submissions will be due by the 1st of each month so we have time to edit and compile all of the entries. At the end of each post we will let you know the theme for the next month’s post. Photos and the story of your ”Bad Buy” can be emailed to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or nancybaten@upcmail.nl. Please put”Bad Buy” in the subject line.

Let’s see who all bought a Bad Buy top!

First of all of course, is my lovely co-host Shelbee of Shelbee on The EdgeThe Bad Buy Book: topsI really liked this striped peplum top from Old Navy and didn’t buy it when I tried it on.  When I went back for it, they did not have my size so I bought one size smaller. And now it pulls across my chest, the sleeves feel too snug, and the peplum hits right at the widest part of my midsection.  It also gets all caught up in the back on the waistband of my pants.  I should have just ordered the correct size online!

The Bad Buy Book: tops

I guess I should be embarrassed that I have categories for everything you’ve talked about so far…ha ha!!( no Jodie, I love that you buy Bad Buys LOL!)

I’m including a photo of this blouse. I liked the blouse and it fit fine—until I washed it! Then it shrunk like no ones business!! Of course, I’m sure if I was more careful about how I wash my items, I might not have had this issue. But I’m one of those that everything needs to go in the washer and dryer or it just doesn’t work in my life!!!

Too bad, because the whole outfit looks amazing!

Your host! I could add so many bad buy tops. It’s awfull! The Bad Buy Book: tops

I don’t know exactly why I don’t like this top. I think it’s the neckline and the color.

Me again! (that should tell me something!)

The Bad Buy Book: topsAnd this one I only wore once to show here. Again it’s the color, now that I am showing it to you I understand I never must by a top in off white! How helpfull is The Bad Buy Book!

That’s it for now! Although several ladies said they had a Bad Buy top, they did not submit anything. That’s a pitty, I hope you will join next month!

If there are themes that you would find easier, then we would love to hear that!

Next month theme is: .,,Sitting Shoes Sandals”!

So remove those nasty, ugly, uncomfortable sandals from the closet, put them on your feet for one last time and take a picture! We would love to see them before August 10th.

Have a great weekend everybody!

25TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY OUTFIT & FANCY FRIDAY LINKUP

My 25th anniversary party outfit

If you’ve read the post of Tuesday, you’ve already seen what my outfit was on our 25th anniversary party. Today I put that outfit in the spotlights. I actually wanted a dress for the party. I had, as you have also seen here and here, bought different dresses. But on the night of the fashionshow I saw this skirt and I found it suitable for our party. Firstly because when wearing a dress, I can’t hide the oxygen tube unless I wear a cardigan. And with seperate pieces I can let the tube out under the tee. And I didn’t want my outfit to be formal. I wanted it to be stylish but casual. The skirt is very elegant but with that funny tee I made the look more relaxed. And I wanted red espadrilles. These are perfect because they don’t have such high heels, so I could easily stand and walk all day and night. So I felt very comfortable in my 25th anniversary party outfit!

Why is a cat lover wearing a dog tee?

Because I knew I wanted red espadrilles with the skirt, I immediatly found this tee perfect for the skirt. Because of the red bow! I love when a color comes back in a outfit. But I have nothing with dogs. Yes, I do like them, like I like all animals. But I love cats! So the other tee is perfect for the skirt too! Isn’t it a funny one! Btw, the pictures are taken at the estate where we had our party….that is not our house!
