CHEVRON PRINT ON DENIM PENCILSKIRT & FANCY FRIDAY LINKUP

What is a Chevron print exactly?

A chevron print is a v-shape that looks like a zigzag pattern. Most of you will recognize it from Missoni. But the chevron print is much older then that. It dates back from ancient Greece where it was seen in many art forms. And of course the chevron figure was and is used in the military and on police uniforms. Let’s keep it with fashion. Missoni’s popularity came in the 70’s when Diane Vreeland, editor of Vogue at that time, championed the chevron print. That’s why the chevron print always has a retro vibe. But Missoni still uses the chevron print in their collections. Missoni is working together with Target for a cople of years now.

How do I style a chevron print?

I actually had in mind, to stay in the 70’s vibe, to wear my grey pleated skirt and my new pink mules with this jumper. But you have seen that skirt often enough and you can imagine yourself how it would look. Next time when I wear it like that I will take a picture and show it. I choose to wear the sweater with a denim pencilskirt and light pink peeptoes. The sweater I bought at Primark. Sometimes you can find little gems there! I hardly ever do, but sometimes…pink peeptoes and chevron printchevron print sweaterpencil skirt and chevron printoutfit with chevron print me in chevron printdenim skirt and chevron printfashionable with chevron print

FASHIONABLE ICECREAM ON STRIPED SKIRT

We all have a striped skirt…..havn’t we?

Why do we love a striped skirt so much as soon as the temperature starts to rise? And not only skirts, sweaters, tee’s and shoes too! I don’t need to tell you where the striped look came from, but for those who want to read about it I have a link here. I think striped skirts and sweaters generate a feeling of holidays somehow. Water, sailing, sun, France. So I thought I would reinforce that feeling by wearing ice cream! Haha, not literally of course. How much fun is this sweater!

Striped pencil skirt in spring!

With such beautiful weather like today it’s so nice to go with bare leggs. Still a bit fresh but to not wear tights anymore is such a liberty! I have this striped skirt for a long time, and I also worn it a lot. I wore it like this here all the time. I think I will be wearing it again a lot because it is so easy to wear and….I bought a new striped tee that would be great on this skirt. The striped tee I bought for this skirt! I asked you what you would wear on this skirt exept for something plane black. Most of you said: stripes! Okay, then I will wear stripes! But that’s for another moment. I am wearing my turquoise necklace as a bracelet. I always buy these whenever I am in Brighton, on the boulevard. Everytime another color. Just a nice remember of my beloved Brittain. I think I will be buying a red or a pink one soon! Yeah! A dark blue ring and to add a pop of color, a pink belt. For some reason I only wear my brown fringed sandals or these espadrilles with this striped skirt.

FASHION OVER 50 WIDE SKIRT WITH PRINT

Fashion over 50 is fantastic!

And why is fashion over 50 so great? Well in my case because the older I get the more confidant I am. As a girl and a young woman I was pretty uncertain. Many people confused it with arrogance. Such a pitty. But the more confidence I get, the more I wear what I want. No, I have to say that in a different way. I always have worn what I wanted but now I feel more confidant in the clothes I wear. Such a shame that I had to wait until this age to get there!

This skirt helped me to find a new dress!

Just like these shoes I felt immediately in love with this skirt when I saw it on Instagram. The print is fantastic, the colors modest yet colorful and it has bags. I think that looks great on skirts like this one. And the lenght is just right for fashion over 50(on me that is). When I checked the site where I bought this skirt, I saw that this brand has got amazing dresses too! And I had been looking for a dress for our party. Gerben and I are 25 years together this year( we are not married) and in June we celebrate that with family and friends. And I ,,needed,, a dress for that occasion of cours. The dress will not be worn before the party, even not for you guys so you all have to wait a while! I have already told you that the store where I bought most of my clothes, and where I worked, has changed the concept. I can’t find any nice dresses or skirts there anymore. Such a shame. On the other hand, it aint a bad thing to explore other brands.

What I wear with this skirt.

I know, print mixing is it! But I do not intend to cover the fine print of this skirt with other prints. So I keep it calm with a lace top and a leather bolero. Btw, my dear blogging friend Shelbee wore this print on a beautiful blue dress last week. Isn’t that coincidental! printed skirt in fashion over 50lace top in fashion over 50leather bolero in fashion over 50fashion over 50outfit in fashion over 50red shoes in fashion over 50swans in fashion over 50skirt in fashion over 50me in fashion over 50

BALANCED WITH MEDITATION

I will try to meditate.

I am interested for a while now in meditation because I can relax very pourly. But because relaxing and unwinding is so important for my body, and mind, ( it is for everybody, but I mean with my pour health)I wanted to try it. But you know how it goes, months go by and not once I started meditating. But for a couple of weeks ago I was so very stressed that I thought: enough is enough! Let’s start unwinding!

Meditation is still not very well known to everyone in the Western world. If you ask some random people on the street whether they ever meditate, the majority will indicate that they havn’t and some will even look surprised too. Because meditation is for alternative people who live in their own world isn’t that so? It’s not, meditation seems to be very relaxing and can work redemtive for everyone. There seems to be no exceptions. Well, I am ready to try!starting meditation

What is actually meditate?

Meditating means according to Wikipedia: concentrate on his inner deep thought. Other defenitions are: concentrating exercise with the aim to understand and strenghten the spirit, and concentrate on the breathing, on a particular object or chanting mantras. Well I skip the chanting mantra thing!unwinding with meditation

Do it your own way.

Meditation is something that can’t be captured in one sentence. For one meditation can mean you sit in one position for half an hour in a peaceful area on a meditation cushion with some music turned in yourself. For the other it’s to shut the world outside for a while with closed eyes and to let your mind run free, or to try to not think anything at all. But you can also meditate while walking through nature. Have no idea on how to do that! The agreement between all forms is that you turn to yourself and become aware of yourself.meditation cuchin

Important parts of meditation.

Breathing is the most important part of meditating. Anyone who is not familiar with meditation, like me, will be consciously busy in the first period with regulation of breathing. And you know that breathing is a problem for me. Because of our busy lifes we are not used to having an extremely calm and deep breathing. This is during meditation so, to be able to get to utmost tranquility. I think it will take a while with me.

Except for breathing, your posture is just as important. With a bent back and collapsed organs you can’t get the best out of yourself. Therfore straighten your back as far as possible by pressing your chest forward and take a pleasant sitting position. This could be cross-legged but it can also be a lying position on your back. Your organs are now free to work well so you can breathe good.relax with meditation

A meditation environment.

Rest is the meditation’s thread. Without a quiet environment you cannot meditate and you will not get calm. Therefore plan a moment of the day with plenty of time. It doesn’t matter if it is in the morning or in the evening. Soothing music can work but total silence is also very nice, I love the silence. You can better focus on your own thoughts I think. If you choose for the sitting position, the bare ground is not a pleasant place. A nice solution is a meditation cushion c/o that is specially designed to be comfortable while meditating. The cuchion conforms to your posture and in most cases you can fill the cushion or retrieval so that you can determine the desired height yourself. Ideal!

If you like scents, lavender and sacred wood can provide for a calming or soothing effect. You can light a candle or heat a few drops of essential oil. If you feel cold quickly, like me, it is advisable to bring the room to a temperature or to use a Yoga blanket for extra warmth. That time you sit still, your body cools off easily by a few degrees. Not every meditation is equal. Try to hold on ten minutes in the beginning and slowly build up to half an hour.meditation gear

Handy apps.

We live in a modern era, so for everything is an app. It makes sence that te first time you have no idea how to start, how long your sessions must last or what your goal is. Through apps, Smiling Mind, Stop Breathe and Think Buddhify(It is paid and cost €5)you get the guidance you need and you can choose varietes of meditation to try.

The power of repetition.

At first it may feel uncomfortable to you. You could get the feeling that you’re impatient, it is not for you because you can’t sit still or you can percieve it as confrontational. As with many things in life, repetition is important to discover your way of meditating. After a few times you will discover what position you like best, how to breathe and what kind of setting works for you. Do not give up on yourself, but allow your body and mind to adjust to your new way of relaxing.castor and meditation

This is what Lisanne of SuperYoga told me about meditation. I will have a stopwatch beside me otherwise I think I will look at my phone every minute. And I think I will start with five minutes. I actually look forward to start meditating. I will keep you all informed!

THE BAD BUY BOOK -TROUSERS

Welcome to The Bad Buy Book trousers!

The Bad Buy Book is a series hosted by Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge and Nancy from Nancy’s Fashion Style. We wanted to establish together something fun and new. We both talked about our”Sitting Shoes” and so we came up with the idea for The Bad Buy Book.

We all do our best to look great in our outfits, choose the right accessories, the right makeup, the perfect shoes, and wait for the best light to shoot the most flattering outfit photos. And now we are asking you to show us the items you don’t feel your very best in. You know, those,,Sitting Shoes”, that dress that is actually not quite your color, the skirt that is a size too small but the saleswoman said it looked amazing. We all own those items!  And while they may look fabulous, they don’t always feel fabulous! So we want you to show us your bad buys and tell us the story about them! What made you purchase the item?  And why do you dislike it now?  And why not share them with us?  We buy these things for a reason then hide them in the back of the closet.  Now it’s their turn to share the limelight.

This month theme is,,Trousers”! You know the too loose, too long, too short, too baggy, too staticky, too itchy, too hot, too thin…..or whatever the case may be!

Well, let’s take a look now at your bad buy trousers!

First of all my lovely co-host Shelbee. The Bad Buy Book trousersI am always a sucker for a great pair of distressed jeans and I also am a fan of higher quality denim.  When I saw these on sale at American Eagle, I wanted to give them a try.  I really liked the high waisted style when I tried them on, but I tried them on with a long tunic so they look slouchy and cute.  But when I tucked a shirt into them to try to dress them up, it made me have the most puffy belly pouch ever!  And no one wants that.  I still wear them, but with longer shirts and really as just knock-around jeans now.

Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of StyleJodie in The Bad Buy Book trousers“It sure makes me feel better to know that I’m not the only one who buys the wrong items at times!!

I never realized these pants were that bad. I used to wear them to work (but in my defense, they might look a tidge better with heels??). Anyways when I wore them as a comparison for our floral shirt post last summer, I realized that they just were not flattering. So I gave them away.

I think taking photos of our outfits can be so enlightening at times!! The mirror can certainly lie (or else I need some new glasses–ha ha)”

Jodie showed us her beautiful floral blouse on jeans! Jodie in The Bad Buy Book trousersThat’s much better Jodie, if I may say so.

Your host NancyThe Bad Buy Book trousersI don’t like jeans! Here in my area everybody wears jeans! Why I bought these I don’t know. They fit perfectly, they are highwaisted, they even gave me a but! But it is just not me! I felt like a total different person wearing them! I only wore them for the blog.

Next month theme is ,,Jewelery”. So it’s time to take a picture of those heavy earrings, the bracelet that leaves stains, the gifted necklace that you hate, the ring that you can”t take of unless you keep your hand in the fridge for half an hour. I think you understand what we mean.

Every month on the 15 th, we will both publish a post sharing the photos you have sent us along with a few sentences about the bad buy. Photo submissions will be due by the 1 st of each month so we have time to edit and compile all of the entries. At the end of each post we will let you know the theme for the next month’s post. Photos and the story of your ”Bad Buy” can be emailed to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or nancybaten@upcmail.nl. Please put”Bad Buy” in the subject line.

Unfortunately we do not have many Bad Buy looks this week to show you and we therefore hope very much that you are going to send massive pictures for next month!

Happy Easter weekend all!

PLEATED SKIRT LIKE VICTORIA BECKHAM & FANCY FRIDAY LINKUP

Where do you get your inspiration?

First I want to ask you, if you want to be kept informered of the latest post and you did not get an notification last Tuesday, to subscribe again in the sidebar with your email. I cancelled my old WordPress.com site and thus the Jetpack plugin that registered the email subscribers. The reminder email for the linkup is something different. I would appreciate it!

Since Victoria Beckham has left the Spice Girls, she is to me one of the greatest style icons. But not only that! I think she’s an inspiration because she did not walk an easy path, also not in her marriage, but she has become, in my view, a great designer. I really love her style. Take a look here at her new collection for Target. This outfit is also inspired on her looks. She has got gorgeous photo’s on her Instagram account.

Wearing it like Beckham…

I wanted to purchase a pink pleated skirt for this season. You guys know that I already have two. And on Pinterest I have a Victoria Beckham board and when I was searching for new pictures I came across this one and I was inspired to wear a pink skirt like that. Yes hello, I know I don’t look as good as she does, am not as talented as she is etc., but I liked the look! So who is your style icon and do you sometimes wear the same look as your style icon?

Speaking of style, I really need your Style stories if I want to continue with the Styled by…. series. So please read this page to see if it is something you like to write about. I would be very sorry if I have to quit these series.white blouse like Victoria Beckhamsneakers like Victoria Beckhampink skirt like Victoria Beckham Love Victoria Beckhampleated skirt like Victoria Beckhamoutfit like Victoria Beckhamwhite sneakers like Victoria Beckhamclutch like Victoria Beckhamcollection Victoria Beckham
